75g. tank
1 lawmower blenny
1 small foxface
1 maroon clown
1 engineer goby
6 peppermint shrimp
2 cleaner shrimp
several hermits/snails
DSB
LOTS of live rock
5 year old tank
3 months ago I upgraded my lights, and was pleased with the result, but it also spurred an outbreak of hair algae.
So I finally broke down (I try to keep the bio-load down) and bought a lawnmower blenny. I love the little dude, and he's constantly swimming around and "striking" rock and glass with his mouth... although it always looked to me that he was only munching on clean areas of glass and rock.
Anyway, after about 2 months now, he's gradually gotten skinnier and skinnier. He's very active and is constantly feeding, and I've seen him crap a bunch of stuff out several times so I KNOW he's eating something, but I can't figure out why he's getting so skinny. This past week he almost looked skin and bones.
Yesterday I put a small sheet of green seaweed in there (something I rarely do), and he went nuts munching on it. Actually ate it for a while, wrapped himself up in it and took a nap, then woke up and munched on his pillow. Wish I could do that.
So fine, he obviously loves that stuff and I'll feed with it a lot more often now that I know that, and hopefully he'll gain weight.
But I thought these guys were supposed to help with other algaes in the tank? He's got a veritable all-you-can-eat buffet of hair algae in there, and between its proliferation and his Karen Carpenter impression, I'm not sure he's even touching it.
Anyone have similar experiences or suggestions? Thanks in advance!
