SLASH calender

Would we be interested in a SLASH 2016 calendar comprised of varies photos of club members tanks, fish, corals, ect? I would be more than happy to put the calendar together. Depending on qty. I think we could get them for about $8 dollars a piece. This would be a normal 12 month wall calender. If we are interested this is what I propose. We start two threads. One for submitting photos. Full tank shots, up close coral photos, full corals, tank inhabitants get creative. The next post would be for pre-orders. Put your post in that you want one or more. We would open photo submittal up until thanksgiving. Then we could set up a date for any members that want to get together and pick the photos or I can do it and surprise everyone. Thoughts?

Mark them up and make some $$ for the club. Use it for either more loan equipment, the science center's tank, or getting the club's name out there more.
I'd have no problem paying 20-25 bucks for one.
Or maybe some of the LFS or the science could sell them, they get the profit, the club gets their name out there.
win-win

I don't think most people take high enough resolution photos to be able to be blown up to calender size, myself included.

I generally agree. if you are talking about resolution, it really depends on how much cropping you want to do. A 6 MP camera can be used to create an 8x10 if you do not crop. However, the bigger problem would be focus under water and through glass. When you start blowing up the shot, the focus becomes that much more critical.

However, one thing that could be done is have collages instead of a single picture. That would keep the size of any one picture down.

I think people would want to see more than just one FTS per month anyway... I know I like to see the fish room and equipment almost as much as I like to see the DT.

I agree. I wanted to do more groups of photos than just one photo a month. Unless I get a really impressive photo. Depends on how many good photos get submitted. I like the idea of making the club some money but we should get a test year out of the way first. So yes or no with a calendar?

I think a bit more information needs to be available before people would be able to say yes or no. For example, who would be putting up the money for the initial printing?(unless full payment is collected from everyone before printing) If the project loses money, who absorbs the loss? If the project turns a profit, where does that money go? It's been my experience in the past that more people will initially sign up/preorder for endeavors like this than who ultimately wind up paying in the end.

In general, I'd be interested in buying one after I see the final product if they are along the same lines in price and quality to a calendar that I could buy in a store.

An important point I do believe is that many likely won't commit fully to the purchase until they see the final product. That puts the creator in the position of doing a lot of work up front without certainty that enough will buy it to make it worth the effort.

I will buy the calendars. I am not looking at making money so there will be no profit you will simply pay for what the calendars cost. More than likely only about a dozen people will actually want calendars. I will purchase 10 or 20 calendars to start and order more if needed. This is a test to see if we did this what people think. This year would not be a all pro calendar but a simple nice looking wall calendar. We don't know if we don't try.

I would also be willing to take high resolution shots for people if they want. There are probably others that would also take pictures.

We probably ought to also put tanks the club supports; like the science center.

I don't expect pre-pay, buy them if you like them. I will do the work because I want to see this happen. This is not my first rodeo of doing something for a larger group. I understand the circumstances. The initial idea is to see who would be interested. 50% of those interested would most likely purchase. I get that. I will order in small volumes those who don't get the first ones get to wait for the next order. No ones wants to do it I will make one for myself and then make everyone else jealous. :blown:

I like the idea of some science center shots.

Count me in. I would be willing to help wherever you need it.

Oh and Matt in front of his new 120 in his speedo must be high resolution also. I am thinking calendar cover. :hmm3:

I was all up for a poster or two, until the makeshift deal breaker:deadhorse1:
