sliming from water changes

I am nearing the end of my bucket of IO. I had used oceanic salt for a while, and noticed that corals do not "react" to it from a water change. IO always causes my corals to slime up bigtime. Considering Tropic Marine or another salt. Anyone using the Tropic Marine Pro-reef salt? It is a bit more expensive and wonder about the value- namely reefcrystals isn't really worth the extra money over IO....
I remember Toyota guy mentioning some issues with changing salts and ESPI saying something about leaving skimmer off?????

Anyone care to elaborate?

Are you letting that water 'condition,' ie, roiling it with a pump for a number of hours or even overnight, before adding it to your tank?

FYI, I use Oceanic, and a fairly short mix period, about 6 hours, and have never had any sliming or ill effects.

Water is mixed days in advance with a powerhead continually and a heater to equilibrate. RO/DI water. Salinity checked with a refractometer.

The Pro-reef mix is something new- I saw it in foster's and Smith website- mentions something about the buffering being more compatible for reef tanks- whatever that means. See Eric's article from this months Reefkeeping for a healthy dose of skepticism. :)
Not particularily about this salt, but more a general thing of stuff in this hobby.

When I used TM, I rarely let the water sit for longer than an hour before use with a powerhead or just my hand mixing it.

Never had any issues.

just a fyi.
