Well, After god knows how many months of putting off finishing this thing, It's finally done. I've got a couple of small finishing touches to do but this is pretty much the final product:

I'm going to hook it up to my system tonight and run it for a few days and see what happens...

Wow Kent that doesn't look cheap at all. Nice work. Can't wait to see your skimmer in action take a lot of pics.

Where do you get the supplies at to build these things?? That's really nice work!

We will need a pic of the first good cup of skim-mate too :)

I ordered the grey SCH40 pvc from my local plumbing supply (special order) and the rest from my acrylic tube supplier, The reef stop, and US plastics...

Update- Well, the skimmer has been running for 1 day now and it hasn't built a foam head yet. I knew it was going to take a little while to break in so we'll see hoe it does over the next couple days. My current thoughts are that it may, as discussed before, need a slightly bigger pump such as a 2400...If anyone local has one I could borrow to try out on it I like to throw one on and see what it does...

Ok first Kent if you don't mind me asking, About how much cash do you have invested into making this. The total amount once it was finished?? And did you come out ahead by DIY including any issues or set back that you might of had during building it??

And ok guy's Me thinkings hims pulling our legs (Nanooks leg warmer in his case) it's looks way to good. You bought that didn't you Kent?! :)

I've got about $160 in this but I've also got a lot of time into it as well. To build something close to the quality of Deltec and ER there's a lot of attention to detail and that leads to more hours spent on it....

Yeah I've got access to a very well equipped woodshop for $2 an hour....

Time for an update:

The skimmer finished the break in period in just under 3 days which is about what I expected after messing with it for a couple of months and it sitting in the garage for so long. It seems to be doing well for the size of pump that's on it- it's making some coffee colored gunk but I am still thinking that the 2400 would work frikin awesome on this so I think I'm going to go that route. This 1500 would be perfect for a 4-5" diameter skimmer....
