I will be recieving 3 new clams next week. One is a small gold maxima(1.5 to 2 inches). How should I feed this small of a clam.My system is a 125 reef with 3X250 watt DE MH and 4x96 watt PC.the MH are 14K.

Most people say to bowl feed them with DT's. I've kept two 3 inch Maximas in my tank with out having to bowl feed. They have been growing nicely over the past few months and now are about an inch bigger. The ones you are getting are pretty small though.

If your clam is placed on a flat surface or the sand bed, you can use the top 1/4 of a clean water bottle. Place the top over the clam and then use a syringe or turkey baster to squirt the food into the neck where the cap screwed on. This will keep the phyto concentrated around the clam for a longer period. After 15 or 20 min or when the water clears, remove the bottle top.

Watch out for the bottle though, I used to do that a while ago, but the bottle would always fall to the side.

Right now, I just have all my clams in the same area of the tank, so I just dump the phyto in that area (all pumps off) and after 20 minutes turn the pumps on again, another 20 minutes and then the skimmer is restarted.
