Small power head---big anemone---911

Posting a pic now and need advice.

I woke up in the middle of the night and got up to get a drink and found large anemone stuck to small powerhead. It looks as if it didn't do a lot of damage but need to know if he needs to be removed from the tank? He seems to be stuck to the powerhead.

Thoughts?

As you can see though it did seem to tear his trunk some.

The water was slightly cloudy too.

Looking to see if there could be water quality issues with this.

The 2nd pic you can see some sort of light brown yellowish stuff coming out of the mouth

Put him in a breeder box in the meantime until an expert can read this and weigh in.

He is still grabbing hold with his foot pretty well but he is definitely hurt pretty good. He normally is big enough to fill up that entire breeder box.

Put him back into your DT where he will get the best condition. Stagnant water will cause problem and lead to infection. I would just leave him be and he will recover.
When this happen, turn the pump off and leave it where you want the anemone. They will work themselves out of it. This is a mute point in this case, but manual removal may cause more damage to the anemone.

The breeder box has slit size openings on each end and allows flow through the box. Should I still take him out?

It does keep him near the surface and will face an issue when the lights come on.

I went ahead and added foam covers to the PHs as well.

Thanks for the advice Orion...I did exactly what you said and he did release himself from the PH without being forced off.

If you have the box situated such that he does not get too much light and have good circulation then he should be fine in the box. I would add a few piece of rock in it. When the time to move him back into DT, it is a lot easier to place an anemone that at least partially attached to a rock.

Most recent update from last night.

I decided to remove him from the breeder box and placed on the sand near rock.

Little bit mangled but he was pretty large so my hope is he is tough enough to recover. Only about 4 or 5 tentacles got chopped and a tear on the trunk from the ordeal. Hopefully the trunk will heal.

Is a torn trunk as bad as a torn foot?

BTA have been known to ride down the overflow and end up as several large pieces and countless small pieces. The reefer ended up with several small BTA clones.

Turn off the flow until ht attach. Use a smooth concave (so that the rock won't crush him or put a hole in him) rock and put this rock on him. He will attach to the rock in a few minutes and then you can turn your pump on. Flowing anemone like this will get puree by the PH.

I anemone proofed the tank with foam covers over the inlets. Anemone is currently against glass next to powerhead letting the PH blow it like crazy
