small pump

i've been thinking up some plans to build a sump for my 10g. i was wondering if anyone had a small pump they wouldn't mind getting rid of that would work for my tank. i was planning on making a spray bar for the return into the tank.

Before getting a pump have you had a chance to plan out your plumbing? Things like bulk head size or overflow size as well as number of elbows, check valves, total height, etc should be considered before picking out a return pump. Once you've got that down there is a head-loss calculator on the main home page. You can use this to give you a better idea on how big of a pump you can use. Hope that helps; if you already have it planned out feel free to share, seeing new setups come to life is pretty interesting.

k i just spent 30 min on paint making a sketch but once i get it under 50kb you cant see what anything is. so i'll just explain my idea. because i'm a student i'm broke so i'm trying to do this as cheap as possible. i want to turn a plastic cabinet into a sump/fuge. my tank sits on my dresser and i have enough room to put it right next to the dresser between the wall. i want to make an over flow box with a u-tube going into a hose down to the sump. i'm going to have 4 chambers. intake/heater/fuge/return. in the fuge i want to use egg crate to make a (duplex type fuge) got the idea from reefvideos. for return i want to run a hose back up to the tank with a ball valve connected to pvc. then up and over the edge of the tank into a T. iwant the spray bar to have open 45s on the ends and 2 holes drilled facing down the back wall and 2 pointing foward before the 45s. i think that about somes up my idea. not too fancy. trying to keep it simple. i dont want to use too thick of tube. any ideas would be great.

i would love to have it drilled. but its already set up and i dont really want to take it down. thats the only reason i was going to go with a u-tube. would i be able to put a powerhead in the over flow hooked to the u-tube just to keep the siphon going better? i'm still looking for a pump also.

As long as you have enough space in the overflow for a power head I guess that could work.I just know in a 10 gal tank space is a premium....fwiw.. Dont put the power head so it is drawing water from the bottom of the overflow but at just below the waterline, that way if your return pump quits it wont drain the tank.

i could use left over eggcrate for that. what size return pump would work. its about 5' max it would have to travel from the sump to tank.

jbob it has 3 chambers, two brand new pumps and Excellent skimmer. Like I said it has never been used. You may come and look at it if you like.
