Small tang suggestion for 100 g tank

Would it be ok to keep either a Kole or Tomini tang in a 100g tank? Tank is very lightly stocked it has two sunburst anthias and a black cap gamma in it.

Secondly, are there different type of Kole tang? When i Google kole tang pictures it came up with a few different colour and pattern ones.

They can change their colors rather dramatically. But patterns are pretty consistent: dots on the face, stripes down the sides. C. truncatus looks similar as adults, but has dots throughout its body. C. flavicauda has the same patterns and color as C. strigosus, except for the white tail.

i would take a kole over a tomini. more personality in my opinion. my blue eyed kole is probably one of my favorite fish ive ever owned.

I'd pick the Kole over the Tomini as well.

3rd vote for this.
And yes the Kole tang from Indian ocean looks different from Indo-Pacific. Also you can find a close relative- the white tail bristle tooth tang, which is usually 2-3X the price of a kole tang for the white tail!

Tomini, kole, spotted kole/squaretail (any of the bristletooth tangs for that matter), yellow, scopas, purple, convict. All of these I would feel safe adding to a 100g tank, just appreciate their territorial nature and relatively heavy bioload. Good luck :fish1:

So i went ahead today and bought a kole tang. It looked fine and eating brine shrimps in LFS. A few hours after i released it in QT it came out with the most severe ich outbreak that i have ever seen. Its entire body including eyes are covered with ich. I did ask shop owner whether he runs a mild dose of copper in his tanks and he said no. He was either lying or this tang has so many ich parasites under its skin and stress from being caught, etc, showed all the parasites within hours. I will never buy another tang again.

FWIW, I have had fish literally covered with spots from Ich that I treated and fully recovered. As long as you treat your Kole Tang, and your DT is also free of Ich, you have nothing to worry about.

agreed. if you can get tank transfer done asap, this fish can be saved. i think in your other thread you mentioned that you have a flame angel in the same qt? they will both have to be put through ttm now that the angel has been exposed.

kole tangs are great fish. i have one in my 75g. he's gorgeous, very bold to the point of eating out of my hand. yours looks like a very nice specimen (minus the ich, of course). it would be a shame to see him die.
