Today i added a few corals to my tank, and all of a sudden a bunch of small white "balls" started coming out of my orange torch.
(the torch also closed up a little bit during this... )

Here are some pics (wish i had a DSLR). this was early on in the episode... after i took pics, a lot more balls started coming out. (also these pics arent pretty... i just got the cam out to take the shot of the "balls") there were no powerbrites LEDs on)

Does anyone know what these are?

+1 gary, its the right time of year for them to happen. Be ready to skim heavy and do a water change if things start going downhill

I have never seen the balls but have seen my torches release a misty substance......i bet it is spawning....

I picked up an awesome orange torch from Randy's in Buffalo. He has some nice ones there but I think I snagged the most unique one. It has very circular shaped tips more than usually. Tom in Rochester has a big one in his tank that has cicular tips.....tom's is an awesome torch. It is purple with yellow tips.

did you add any new Torch corals or other Euphyllia spp.?

this looks like a spawn.

Gary i did not add any new euphyllia.

i did do a bit of rescaping (again lol) and moved my todds torch about 3-4inches away from it.

RyanEG,

yeah, i hear spawn can be pretty bad. i am running a skimmer, and carbon right now. (it also doesnt help that i have no fish to eat the spawn)

Kent, here is a pic of the orange torch when its open. (it bleached a bit while i was away at college, but its getting color back nicely.

Looks like a real nice one! I have have two orange ones.....the one I got from Randy's and one I got from a place in Syracuse called ABC Reefs. I lost three of the four heads on the one from ABC Reefs but it looks like the only you just posted. I saw a thread on RC that talked about a guy who bid on an auction for a purple torch...looked awesome. Did you see that thread? I am really into LPS's and recent moved my tanks from Albany to Utica. Lost a few things unfortunately but will be moving at some point again so learned a few things this time around. Most of my torches except for my really big green one are in my 29 bio cube for now. Have you seen the one at Tom's in Rochester with the golf ball shaped tips? very unique....color is nothing out of the ordinary but the tips are incredible.

yeah...when josephA and I were there, same thing happened. Said he might auction it off to charity.....hopefully we all will be the charity cases of that....lol

GMaquarium,

yeah im starting to think the same thing...

unless its pooping white things... yeah haha im not sure.

who is Eric Borneman? (ive heard of him before) is he on Rc?

Eric H. Borneman is a top gun in the hobby. He is well published and has wrtiten some great books, such as Aquarium Corals. DOn't know how to reach him. Perhaps you culd google the name. e used to be on a web site run by Marine Depot.

thanks TMZ.

I'm not sure, its been almost a year, but i think i had a long video of Borneman fragging corals.
