smell of dying coral????

mt tank was 85 degrees yesterday and when i walked in my office, it smelled like a steak that had been sitting out in the heat all day. My corals didn't look the greatest, but they are still going strong.

is this the normal smell from overheating tanks?

cool that baby down, at 85 they will not last long, look at the great barrier reef.

That sure sounds like the start of what my dead tank smells like. I'd get some fans blowing on the sump ASAP.

its my 24g aqua pod and I have the AC turned down to 75 and I am leaving the MH off during the day......hopefully it helps

I had that smell once and replaced about 50% of water, did agressive skimming and applied carbon and filter. I think it saved my tank, but some corals are showing signs of distress.

You may want to do more than just reduce the temp as some die-offs probably occurred already. Check your Nitrite to verify.

Testing your water is a good advice, because something likely died. But I'd test for ammonia, because if you test for nitrite, it may be too late and the ammonia spike may have killed more before it ever cycles to nitrite.

If you do detect ammonia, you can do water changes to prevent more damage.

Harsh, real harsh. That said, i have had good luck with the small nano custom chiller, ica, keeps tank at 78 irregardless of office temps that fluctuate during the day. Good luck salty.
