Smiddy's 260 build

New addition

New addition

Finally got a "reef safeish" angel in my tank. I got this male watanabei about 5 days ago and he has been doing great ever since. Th female will be in the tank on this Saturday along with a Dusky wrasse. I think I am getting close to maxing out on fish, but we will see.

Was given a colony by a friend to save after RTN per arrival. I am happy to say all recession has stopped and PE/growth is returning.

Great build! I'm about to have Trent build me a 200-210g and metal stand. I am local to his company in San Diego and will be putting my equipment in my garage like you. Curious what height is your sump sitting at? Also, I was planning on getting an advanced acrylic sump, but your CD sump looks great! Any advantages/disadvantages of a glass sump? Any issues with no teeth on baffles?

Thank you! I used to live in San Diego, before I moved out here to Arizona. The height of my sump? As in reference to the garage floor or the water level in the sump? I love my CD Sump! The advantages where the more stuff I got from him the bigger the discount. Plus glass sumps generally are cheaper than acrylic ( if they are not to large). The Sump was custom to my choosing. It also doesn't scratch as easy, will not expand during the summer months when it gets hot in the garage. ( I know SD has been getting some 95 degree days this summer) Otherwise the main reason was price. I have had no issues with having no teeth on the baffles. My refugium is a separate tank with filters to prevent any algae making it to the sump.

Rock tipping over incident

Rock tipping over incident

I had a rock pillar tip over the weekend ( the only pillar that is not cemented together of course). It broke one of my montis into three large chunks. I glues the back together as best I could. This is more of an experiment to see if they will grow back into one solid plate. Anyone you know tried this before?

I also added another Marine Pure block to the system in thoughts of removing the old one out in a few months to use on and off with a QT system.

Hey Ryan, your tank looks great! How does the Copperband do with your tangs?

Just took delivery of my tank and stand from Trent on Sunday afternoon. Looks AMAZING! Thanks again for the info a while back!

Thanks for reply. Sump height was referring to how high it is off the garage floor.

It is only about 10" off the garage floor. Reason is had to be low enough to get a siphon to start for the bean animal within 2 true minutes and stablize within 5, but also high enough where I don't have to bend over as far for convenience. Man that makes me sound super lazy!

Thank you. I am trying to get a hold of a DSLR camera to try and capture the true visual of what I see versus the Iphone version that can't capture the true beauty.
Wow that is the weirdest thing. My CBB randomly died yesterday! (same day you ask about him) Literally out of the blue. Ate fine the day before with normal behavior then when I got home from work he was stuck to the MP40 dead. It is very true what they say about these fish being so finky where you don't even know something is wrong. Before that the tangs and him got along just fine even the PBT was nice to him, granted they where close in size. I am bummed, but it is was it is. Everything else is great.

I would love to see photos of your tank and stand from CD!
Your welcome!

Oh man! That stinks! That pretty much mirrors my experience with mine too. Eating fine, seemingly healthy then one day just dead. Was hoping that they would fair better in a larger tank, maybe not! I started a tread for my build, here

Love that acro colony too, what is it? Looks kinda like A. Spathulata?

It does stink! I think the larger tank is adequate for CBB. I think some of it comes to the source of the fish and how they are captured, as well as the dietary needs ( I think it obvious mysis and clams aren't providing everything from other threads and people experiences). I just looked at your thread now, that is a good sized tank (a little jealous)! Hope you are happy with the CD tank. When do you think you will have it up and fully running?

It is actually a wild acro, but if had to have a name, A. Spathulata definitely fits this colony the best. I am hoping I can get it to fully recover and color up. If you are ever in flag, I am more than happy to show you the tank if you would be interested.

Thanks man! Just saw your post in my thread. My CBB seemed to do well when I was feeding live blackworms and live clams, after I ran out of the balckworks and went live clams clams and frozen it faded away. I wish there was someplace in the valley closer to me that stocked the blackworms regularly.

I have PC rainbow, PC superman, ASD Rainbow and Tyree purple monster that I need to backup. Let me know if you want em :) Itll be a little bit, they need some time to heal, my T5s got old, par dropped, replaced bulbs, growth went crazy and didnt think to adjust alk dosing up... so theyve been a little unhappy but should pull through.

Do you have the female yet? How do you like them? I want to get a pair of wantanbei angels. Did you get them local. (or Phoenix area)

Yup there is no way I can get live black worms up here. Such a bummer they are a great fish and the only butterfly I would put in an SPS tank.

I am always up to hold back ups. No rush my tank will hopefully be up for years! Let me know what you want to do

I do have a female! I love the pair. Some either like them or think they are ugly freshwater fish haha. I got them local in Prescott valley from my friend who is just starting out. He can get pretty much anything. If you want his info pm and I will give you his contact. He is super responsive and going to make a trip ot to the wholesalers on the 28th.
