Smithii or scyllarus?

i was wondering if there was any better way to determine weather or not my mantis was a smitii other than the blue spots on the arms?
my LFS has him labeled as a "Peacock" but after looking at Dr. Roy's list and a few other resources i have concluded:smokin: that due to its small size (currently 1"-1.5") and the lack of spots on the carapace, and the two purple meral spots that it is a purple spotted mantis instead.

im 9 days into cycling the tank (18 gallons 68 liters) and the shrimps still at the LFS, i really hope that he is a smithii cause then he won't outgrow my tank.

if it doesn't have the leopard spots on the carapace and its meral spot is purple, I'd be willing to bet it's a Smithii. The only other purple meral spot is a N. Oerstedii (I'm sure I spelled that wrong...).

At this size, it really can't be O.s. The purple meral spots, coupled with a red knob at the anterious base of the uropods are diagnostic of G. smithii and G. acutirostris. G. acutirostiris also has purple meral spots, but is identified by having spiniform anterior lateral angles of the rostrum.
