Smoothdog's 150DD build

Thanks guys. Still a lot of work to go though.

Got my skimmer hooked into the new sump tonight. I've never thought this skimmer was living up to its full potential, now I'm sure it wasn't. Now that I've got it in the sump and the pump doesn't have to push an extra foot higher AND I am able to remove the output valve completely to let it flow better its pumping out scum like a beast. Now I just need to get it tuned in where I want it. Oh, it's an aqua-c ev-180.

I posted this in the club forum but thought I'd post it here as well since it's relevant to my build:

Just wanted to post this up because we always hear about the negative experiences with companies, but don't often hear the good ones. I bought a used aquariumplants.com CO2 regulator along with a calcium reactor several months ago and finally got around to setting it up with my new build last month. after a couple of days I noticed that I was getting inconsistent CO2 dosing into my reactor, sometimes it would dispense at the set rate and other times it would just send a flood of CO2. I emailed customer service to see if the unit was serviceable and was contacted by Mark over the phone who got some detailed information about the regulator. Even thought the unit was second hand and was obviously an older model that was out of warranty he offered to repair the regulator for a nominal fee of $50 which they normally only offer to original owners after the factory warranty has expired. I shipped the regulator to them and UPS apparently thought the box was a football so when it arrived the plastic housing of the control unit was smashed an broken off the regulator and the low pressure gauge was busted as well. after checking what was left of the control box it was determined that saltwater had slipped past the worn out check valve shorting out the electronic regulator prior to me buying it. Rather than trying to fix the existing one (since it was smashed) They replaced the entire electronic module with a brand new one and for only $20 more installed a new low pressure gauge as well. I picked up one of their high quality check valves to make sure this didn't happen again and Mark even threw in a redundant check valve for free to be absolutely sure this wouldn't happen again! In the end I essentially have a new regulator for $70. Mark could have easily said that the unit had obviously been abused and I would need to purchase a new one at full retail price but instead he stood behind his product as the most reliable regulator on the planet and made things right! AquariumPlants.com will definitely be getting my return business in the future!

That was a sweet story but where are the pics? You know d smack can't read :lmao:

But really it's good to hear about the good companies.

Just ordered a bunch of goodies with the prize money I won at Aquariumplants.com! Should ship tomorrow and be here on Monday since they are just across the state in Omaha, NE. I'll be sure to take pics once it all arrives. :D

Check out their home page. ;) They have a drawing every week so I think the info will be gone tomorrow. They specialize in freshwater but I realized that they have a pretty decent selection of SW related items too.

Nice score!

Yeah, I know! Couldn't believe it when they emailed and called to tell me 2 days after paying for the fixed regulator and some misc CO2 parts.

Did I miss it or did you just not tell us what skimmer you bought? Be careful, some of these people around these parts like to derail threads hahaha

I mentioned it in another thread. Was gonna wait to post it here until I had pics but since you asked, I got the Octopus Diablo XS200. This is the same skimmer as the Extreme XS200 but when the extreme came out it had the sicce psk2500. They have since upgraded to the PSK1000 (name seems counter intuitive) and I guess they are changing the Extreme name to Diablo, so you can get the same skimmer with either name from different retailers for now depending on stock.

I got suckered by the LEDs on a couple frags. I already have the setosa and tricolor but they looked different under the LEDs even after I asked them to turn up the whites. The tricolor looked like it had yellow polyps instead of green and the setosa was a vivid red, not orange. At least the tricolor may be a different one than the one I already have. It's hard to tell now but we'll see when it start growing out.
