Smoothdog's 150DD build

Sweet reactor!!!!

Have you filled it up with media yet

Not yet, but I don't doubt that it will take every bit of the bucket of media I just got. :D

How'd you like the 612? I'm thinking of getting one myself.

It's a great reactor. Would be perfect on a 90-120g with a medium load. Just wasn't cutting it with the 150g display + 70g grow out tank and 40g frag tank all full of stoneys. ;)

Heck yeah. Did you put zeomag in? What size media do you use? It looks good sitting there.

Looks awesome, smooth dog! Glad it went to a good reefer:D

Thanks Nook, couldn't be happier with it!

I'm dumped what zeomag in had left in there and used the media with zeomag added out of the old reactor to top off the effluent chamber. I used a full bucket of coralvue media plus most of a small tub of ARM to fill both.

Sorry if I'm distracting from this thread but I learned a lot from you in a short time so your opinion goes a log way for me. Now to the question(s)...

What media are you using in your reactor? If different types are used how much of each in % or whatever measure is easy. Did you ever measure the output out of your reactor for the big 3? Where are your levels in the tank? What PH do you target inside the reactor?

Sorry for all the questions! You and Nook are masters when it comes to having beautiful tanks. Any input is always appreciated!

Not a distraction at all, that's half the reason I put the thread up. I'm using coralvue media which is made up of coral skeletons and very similar to the TLF stuff. There is a little bit of coarse ARM in there too just because I needed some and it was available (thanks again Nook ) . I prefer the skeleton type media, it seems to hold the mag up better. I do run a little zeomag too but I'm not sure my pH runs low enough to really dissolve it well. I keep my pH in the reactor between 6.6 and 6.7, the regulator is dialed in to hold between those numbers and the controller keeps it from going outside those bounds if anything happens. I measured output when I first setup my reactor to get a baseline, but I haven't since. Now I just measure regularly after any changes and adjust output if needed. Calcium is at 420, alk is 9.7dkh and mag is close to 1500 right now.

dialing it in

dialing it in

Cleaned the CaRx last night and added media. I also pulled the feed off the manifold and hooked up a MJ to feed it. It was just too hard to keep it dialed in off the manifold due to the high pressure pump. Maybe if I find the right kind of valve to dial in the feed pressure easily and won't clog I'll try again, but this was the easiest route. Think I'm gonna need to upgrade to a larger reactor with all these sticks though. Picked up an Avast you-built effluent chamber that just came in today. Hopefully it will help reduce CO2 usage and let me go longer between refills for now. I'll post some pics of the build when I have some time to work on it.

I apologize in advance if this has already been addressed I have read part of the whole build thread but not all of it as of now.

I think that one of these peri pups would do the trick and you would not need one of the digital units because you have a remote sump.
I love the idea of having a rectangle sump under a cube, small sumps under a cube is why I took my cube down.

Hi moondoggy, I did upgrade the reactor and I'm still using the MJ to feed it. It's been working like a champ and I finally have things dialed in nicely. The only problem with a peri pump is that the affordable ones have a static rate so it'd be a major pain to dial the ph in the reactor to match the flow rate, or cycle the pump on and off to get the needed flow rate.
