Snail experts ID needed

This guy showed up tonight while looking for my tiger tail that went Mia the day I put it in...


Anyone know the type and if it's harmful I've never seen this guy before tonight and it's huge 1/2-3/4" long blackish shell
I added 15 small nassarius snails 1/4" or so last week

Any tips would be appreciated just worried if it might try hunting any fish since I have sand sleeping wrasses and a few gobies

It could be a Nassarius snail but could also be a Whelk. The Nassarius snail is a great addition to a reef tank and is not harmful at all. The Whelk on the other hand is a carnivore and will eat anything it can get, dead or alive.

Need better pictures to be positive, but right now I'm thinking Whelk. Put it in your sump for now until a positive ID is made.
