Snail ID

This isn't my picture, but were trying to get an ID for a different thread. My guess is a harmless Collumbellid snail, but I wanted to make sure. Thanks. :)

I hope somebody else can help you. I recognize a lot of local critters, but better when they are more mature. I see so many small shells that look like this, or very similar to it, that I couldn't say.

I hate it when a photo is ALMOST good enough for an ID lol. It could be a columbellid, but the shoulders look pretty broad for that. Coronations are kind of unusual in the columbellid family, but there are a few species that have them, especially as subadults. So...it's probably either a columbellid, which is harmless, or it's one of the coral-eating snails in the Murex family. If it's a bad guy, the animal will be a pale greenish color.

Cheers,

Don

Here's another picture. (not mine) If this is a bad snail, what kind of corals does it prefer to eat?
