Snail ID

Any ideas why it has the outer coating. I have a few of these with hard shell but this guy just came out of no where with coating over hard shell.

It's a "Fleshy Limpet." That is the mantle that is extended and covers the shell. Lots of species of snails protect their shells in that way, but only a few species of keyhole limpets.

Limpet! My favorite part of my clean up crew!!!! They are great algea eaters and Reef safe! Good find.
