snail id?

I dont think it is a sundial, as it is brown and not grey. I saw a larger cousin but could not grab it before it zoomed out of my reach.

It's not a sundial. It's either a small turbinid or a trochid, and either should be safe in your aquarium. If it's a turbinid, it will have an operculum made of shelly material (it will look like a small pearl in the aperture, with a dent in the middle if it's in the subfamily Colloniinae). If it's a trochid, it will either have a transparent amber disc for an operculum or it will lack one entirely. From the single pic, it looks like it might be a Pseudostomatella or Stomatolina species, which wouldn't have an operculum.

hehe yea it was at the bottom of my aquascape, under a ledge and my arm was just too short to get to it. and seriously, the darn thing moved around the rock to the back while i had my arm in the water, contortionist style, while trying to bend over to see where the darn thing was. I have no clue where it went

I was told elsewhere that it's a collonista snail (SP?) so i put it back in the tank, if i see one higher up in my tank i'll see if i can identify them better using those descriptions.
