snail id

Are these baby cerith snails? If so I started with 9 and there are now many. They come out at night and are on the glass and some on the rocks.

Can they over populate?

Snail populations are self limiting.

When there is plenty of food they'll thrive and make more. If there's not enough food, some will die off for lack of food.

Definitely not ceriths. They look more like colonistas to me.

By the way...they could be full grown too. Colonistas are small snails.

Ding.....Ding....Ding....Cap I believe you have it. Thanks. Did a search on the name an the pic looks very similar. From what I read they are harmless and good nocturnal grazers.

Just wanted to make sure they weren't sundial snails. The coloration on the one hand me a little concerned when I saw it in the tank.

Sundials very seldom venture far from their food source. If you see a snail on the glass chances are that it is not a sundial.

The old guy comes through again! We are very lucky to have his font of knowlege here in our club, inspite of his advanced years . When Daddy Jack puts him in the nursing home I really hope he picks one with intenet access for Capo. As long as we make the pics BIG he can see and ID them.

Good snails to have from what I read too. your tank must be doing well to have them populating it.

You would think at Cap's age some of this information would be fading but he somehow always seems to come up with the right answer.
