snails and hemet crabs

Hello all,

I have lost my snails and hermet crabs the last couple of days. Could it be beacause my Nitrates are all out of wack.

I checked them yesterday morning and they were sky high! Hope that is the only problem. Everything else checks out.

High nitrates can definitley kill off your clean up crew. How high are they? Have you tested the water?

What does sky high exactly mean. Inverts in general don't like high nitrates. Are there any algae problems at the moment, like dinoflagellates?

Also, what are your other params?

I have them written down and when I get off work I will post them. Algae problems arent bad at the moment. What are the best ways to lower the nitrates.

Depending on how high they are, I would do a large water change. Then you need to figure out why you have high nitrates. What livestock do you have, how much do you feed?

Possible salintity level change or even temp change can cause this as well.

I only have two damsels in there at the moment. Lost everything about 3 months ago and started over. I have noticed a large amount of crap on my sand bed. Sand bed just looks dirty (not algae though).
