Snails at the local restaurant....

They have like a huge bag of live snails and clams, and all sort of neat things at this chinese grocery place by me.

I was wondering if I could just grab them, freshwater dip them to kill any parasites, and then throw them in the tank.

They are meant for human consumption so I am figuring it is ok, right?

Also, I had a green leg stripped or whatever its call hermit crab and the damn thing picks EVERYTHING to death. My live rock and inverts are all getting picked off by it. So I got rid of it yesterday. The LFS guy gave me 3 turbo snails in trade.

So will these turbo snails eat the little tube worms that are young and growning on the live rock or????

thx

no offence my friend, but you have an unknown crab that you want to get rid of and a big of unknown snails and clams that you want to dump in your tank.

doesnt sound like a good idea.

find out what you have first. then think about putting it in your tank.

I thought I had a pic but the experts we have here identified it as a hermit that was not super benefical...

It cost me $3 at petco. so figure its one of those cheapie ones. The snails from what I understand are from the gulf Of Mexico by Texas....

So how does this info that you know now affect your opinion...

thanks ..

I live on the Gulf of Mexico by Florida and I wouldn't put any snail, crab or clam into my tank from the Gulf unless I knew exactly what it was. By the way the northern Gulf is not considered tropical so you may run into problems with your tanks temp. JMHO
