Hey folks I'm new to reef tanks and so far thingsd have been goin well since I started my tank 4 monthes ago. I have a problem. I tried to introduce snails to my tank on 3 occaisions and they died within 24 hours. I have hermit crabs and some fish and even a cleaner shrimp and they are fine. My water quality is good I try to test it twice a week. I allso do 10 gallon water changes once every 2 weeks. If anyone could tell me why or something I could try I'd be gratefull since my blenny can't keep up with all the algae on the glass.

Are you acclimating them? Creatures in shells are particularly sensitive.
Please list the actual test readings. That helps us answer.

I try to acclimate them over an hour by puring the water in the bag in a bucket and add some of my tank water a bit at a time the bucket can sit in my sump so they allso reach the same temp as tank....I did this for the fish and they were fine.

yup you need careful drip acclimation for inverts. And then you're acclimating them to boiling hot water. you need 76-79 max.

Sorry bout the dissinformation I'm Canadian and we use celcius it's around 76 farenheit. I bought the tank new so I don't think I would have a problem with copper. Unless it was in the live rock I bought but the dealer is good and I checked him out before I bought from him, references etc. The fish I have are 1 yellow tang 5 green chromis, 1 blue damsel and 2 ossileris clown fish.(I hope I spelled thet right). I'm goin to try some water changes over the next week tryin to change out at least half the water. I'm using purified water so I know that that is fine. I wondered about copper myself...is there anyway to test for it?

Are you using RO/DI or distilled water in the tank? If your using tap it could be something in the tap water.

yes I'm using RO/DI water I mix it in a container first adding salt to about the right salinaty then I put a heater and a bubbler and let it sit over night. A couple of hours before I do my water change I tweak the salinity to make sure it's right and do my water change in the sump so I don't stress out the fish.
