Snails Dying

Mhay

Crazy Cat Lady
Hello all! Quick question, I hope. I have had my 75 up for about a month now and a week ago I decided to add a CUC. I had 2 hermits already in there from before my tank originally crashed. They were the only survivors and seem to be doing well. I went and picked up a giant nassarius, 2 ceriths, 2 astrea, and 1 large snail(I can't remember the name). I dripped them and everyone was pretty active and moving about in the drip container I had them in. After I got the SG matched(took about 45 mins or so) I put everyone in the display tank. For the first day it seemed as tho no one moved and then the next day I noticed some movement. The nassarius didn't really ever bury himself and the large snail didn't move at all. As of last night both the nassarius and big snail died and have been removed and I can't find the 2 astrea snails and I am fairly certain the ceriths have also died. Anybody have any clue what is going on? I was thinking not enough food but even if that was the case they hardly moved!
I have a Royal Gramma and 2 clowns happily living and having no issues. My parameters are also just fine(posted below). One thought I did have is possible a swing in SG killing them. I will have my ATO set up this weekend but even still the amount of water I replace everyday isn't THAT drastic. And I top it off every morning to lessen the swing.

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 4ppm (this is an old reading I'll check this tonight to see where its at)
SG - 1.024-1.025
Temp - 78
pH - ~8
PO4 - .04ppm
Alk - 8.1 dKH
Ca - 410 ppm
Mg - 1280ppm

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

BTW - no copper was ever used and the hermits haven't bothered the snails

Are you certain they're dead? Snails an go into shock (ocassionally this is delayed) when transported and plae into a new system. Sometime it an take up to 3 days for them to come out of their shells.

^this

All my snails moved two, three inches.. then just stayed in the same spot for about a week.. then they finally started to get lively... if the hermit crabs didn't catch a few.

Nassarius usually burrow straight down tho..

I knew they were dead when I touched them and they wouldn't even retract. I attempt a quick smell test and it didn't smell bad but still the fact I could pull on their body and no attempt and pulling themselves back in their shell was not a good sign. I still haven't seen my astrea and the 2 ceriths haven't moved and it's been a week. So I have no clue what is going on.

SG might be the cause but maybe not the SG swing from your tank. What was the SG of the tank you purchased from? 45 min drip from an extreme could do it.

They came from my LFS reef tank so they are at 1.024 and I'm at the most 1.025. I'm trying to bring it up to 1.026 slowly
