Snails running escaping it their death

i keep finding them outside. I put the back and next morning they're outside the tank dry. Not all but those who had been running always end up outside.

Is this normal? And what's good for brown hair algae? These guys don't do their job
 
you need a screen cover or you will be picking snails for the rest of the hobby. certain snails (like Nerites) lives in the intertidal zone, so they naturally stays at the top of the tank. I always find mine clustered near the screen at night.

best way to defeat hair algae is reduce nutrients, reduce lighting + running GFO... it's a slow fight.
 
Turbos or even a sea hare would do a better job. You would need to re home the sea hare though if you do go that route.

Might as well get the screen cover as well like Monkie said now as many fish can and will jump out its just a matter of time.

Yup. My yellow wrasse, tail spot blenny and a handful of snails have escaped over the past two years....
