snails to the top of tank

is there a layer of dead bacteria and algae growth culminating on the glass at the edge of the water? Snails love to much on that.

no, tanks clean at the top. they all seem to be huddled together.
temp is right on so its not that. nitrates are a little high , but nothing crazy!!

I had that problem till they all die. I was testing to see if the copper levels were low enough to keep snails. Guess not.

We need more information to help you out.

First off, what kind of snail is it? Many snails in this hobby are not appropriate for our tanks and they are trying to find a better or more natural place. Some snails in the hobby are collected from intertidal areas (meaning they naturally are out of the water for some periods of time and may need to be for biological reasons).

Second, how high are your nitrates? Anything over 20ppm can be deadly to snails and other invertebrates.

Third, what is your water temperature and salinity?
