snap, snap, snap....I have a mantis

I've never seen him, but the snap, snap , snap evey night lets me know he's there (romantic sounding? hah!) I've heard him for 7months, he came in LR. But today, I think he's grown big enough to go after my mirco hermits! There's an empty shell with a big hole in it right in front of my glass! Oh, dear.....better start hunting him at night. Have people had success with bottle traps for those guys?

Dr. Roy might have a new specimen soon.

do pistol shrimp go after other inverts? I thought i was just defensive.

The only luck I ever had was to locate the rock they were hiding in (usually just by catching a glimpse of the shrimp poking out of a hole), immediately removing it from the tank and squirting fresh water into the hole until he jumped out.

But they seem to instinctively understand this trick and so they pretty much will only show themselves when they are in the one rock that is the primary foundation of your aquascape.

yes the bottle trap works, it just takes patience. you have to win his trust. You can try to feed him with a feeding stick to lure him out and see where his cave is.

Did you really see if he was a mantis ??? cause I have a bunch of pistols in my tank.. and they pop off espcially at night.. I know there pistols cause I've seen them...

could be a pistol, but the smashed hermit crab shell I found this morning suggest mantis? Or will pistols attack like that?

I also heard that three quick clicks are mantis and two are pistols....maybe the other way around....maybe a wivestale

doubt it.. my pistols can go for 4-6 straight...
