So Called "Open" Frag Swap

Oye.

G helped me so many times with so many things.

Bottom line? He runs a business. That business is his job and his life. He doesn't do it so everyone can pawn free stuff off him. If he didn't want the swap he wouldn't have the swap. You think any a-hole would enjoy people walking into HIS shop and buying corals from other people? Probably not, but he is doing this for us to enjoy.

Don't like it dude?

Don't come.

That said, thanks G for everything.

See you all Saturday.

says someone from the "circle" lmao!

Not really dude. I've spent probably a total of $150 in his store. Equate that to maybe $5 in his pocket after overhead costs of the shop etc. That profit is nowhere near what it has cost him in time to help me fix issues my tank has had since start up.

You are definitely picking the wrong dude to hate on.

Unless there is more to this or hte exchange over the ant enclosures was really harsh, I'm going to say that you have some pretty thin skin to be bent out of shape over this.

I mean, unless I missed it, it doesn't look like you were even asking to set up a table. It just looks like you offered up a unique idea and mentioned that you'd be there for the entire day.

The place is tight when everyone is in there for a swap, so I can see why video games are out. I've only set up a tank at 3 swaps, but I've only ever noticed 1 or 2 people without tanks set up to just hang out the entire time.

Lastly, the exchange seems polite enough. I don't see the need to come running to the internet to attack someones character. This is one persons hobby and another persons living.

In a similar situation, I'd hope that i'd get a bit more leniency before my character was called into question.

Here is a business stand point for bending over backwards for EVERY customer. This customer may only spend $1 this trip but who knows what he or she will spend the next trip. I always feel out a business with a small purchase before spending any real money so I know that they deserve my money. I have never dealt with Gary or his shop but I think that every business should treat EVERY customer like their business depends on it(guess what, it does). I heard something in sales years ago that I have always lived by, for every customer you turn away upset you will potentially lose 10 customers. The logic here is that an unhappy customer will tell 10 people that they got bad service. This thread is a perfect example of this.

not hating on you. also have you ever seen the wholesale list store owners get?

let me put this into perspective for you because i get a wholesale list emailed to me all the time. let me give u a few examples. ill start off cheap first.

green/blue chromis cost around $0.75-1.25 each sell for $4.99-5.99 each
snowflake eel cost around $5-7 each sell for like $20-35 each

now this one will blow ur mind

the clown fish aka nemo cost around $1-2 each sell for $20 each

keep telling me he only made $5 out of the $150 you spent bc i know thats not true. have you ever dealt with wholesale before? the stores buy wholesale and sell retail. wholesalers make a KILLING!

I love this "inner circle" concept.

You know how hard it is to get into? Let's see....a friend of mine told me about ABC in Fairport and I went there one day. I asked some questions and was given answers and great additional info. I returned several times because I enjoy chatting with Gennadiy and his parents about the hobby and all types of other off-topic stuff.

2 yrs later I consider their shop my "go-to" LFS but I absolutely visit the other LFS's just to vary things up!

What I don't do is lurk around their shop pointing out dead fish and pestering about pita projects that have nothing to do with that particular hobby! Honestly BrandAn, do you really think a shop owner would be all kinds of grateful when a customer points out a dead piece of livestock...it was probably a touch embarrassing and awkward lol.

Inner circle! lol

Spyder, You talk about "your generation" as if you are different than everyone else that is on this forum. There is a huge range of people here. I have met many. The one thing that "age" provides is the ability to keep things in perspective.

the dead fish was at the register lmao! they should of noticed it easily. also the best way to find the true colors of a store owner is to come in as a stranger. he treats members of RC different from random strangers. IMO he should treat strangers with a bit more attention bc u never know who they are and what they are willing to spend.

hahaha you make me laugh.

maybe its bc my generation has learned to speak their mind and stand up for what is right. no idea what you learned as a kid.

The more you post the more you show just how "young" and immature you are..lets see some of the costs you have obviously negleted to factor in would include: rent, insurance, paying for labor, paying for stock, electric, gas, water, sewer, taxes, and a whole lot of other items for being a small business where do you think all of this overhead factors in?

Seriously just say you over reacted and let it go..everyone is entitled to their opinion and you don't want to support them don't.

Factor that into running how ever many gallons he has there, the salt, equipment, rent, electric, food, cleaning time, costs for shipping, etc and you have about $5 profit.

I work at a wholesaler in a different field, I know the costs and end costs, the money seems endless but after you factor in cost of keeping up facilities its nearly nothing.

He doesn't get anywhere near the amount of money you think. You aren't factoring in ridiculous freight costs, shrink cost if things don't make it alive, and everything else it costs to set up 40+ saltwater fish Tanks.

i was simply stating that he does make a great profit from every fish and coral he sells.

also all of what u stated just goes to show that every $1 does matter! like i stated b4!

please everyone keep making my point for me i love it :-)

where the wii games going to have underwater themes like find the assesor macneilli or alpheus randalli then I would say ok,but if it asks to find patrick or sponge bob no

yet again, come up with another one ;-)

sad all u can do u comment on the wii lmao!!!

but if u want an underwater game i can bring one where you run an aquarium of your own. wait nvm im not gonna bring it bc im not going to the swap.

Brandan...if I were you, which I'm mos def not. I would stick to your "underwater game that you run an aquarium on your own." Leave the rare eels and the precious livestock to someone else.

yea bc its my fault the tank started leaking. yep deff my fault lmao!!

dont be hating bc i get the rare golden dwarf eel along with the Hawaiian harlaquin shrimp on my list and NONE of the LFS do or can lol.

come at me with something else bro!

In being so immature you're both making yourself look like an idiot and galvanizing people against your position.

These posters pretty much nailed it. Spider/Spyder, don't post nonsensical drivel like this again. If you do, I trust the members will report it for me.
