So here's the scoop.

Ok! really,I did mean that we have chosen a hobby that many will not, out of fear that it is too hard......we really can handle this too! lets give it a few days and we will then know what we will do next. everything will be ok. thank you everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Leah :)
Have a great weekwnd!!!!

I stopped posting and just lurked from a long time now. When I voiced my opinion I got jumped on too. The old "we have been here longer than you" speech. I go to the meetings that are close and don't b*&^h about the ones that aren't. I would go if I was an officer because that would be part of the "duty" of being an officer. It was in every organization I have been affiliated with and I have served in many executive positions previously so I am not "talking" to hear myself. If you can't be there then you should consider not being on the board or at least posting that you will be out for awhile and who will be filling in. It is considerate if nothing else. Maybe the question could have been asked more tactfully but it was an honest question that I am sure many of us wanted to ask. I re-upped my membership this year after a long discussion with gabberjaw. I have not been disappointed in what she is trying to do or plan to do but in presence on the site (this is not directed to gabberjaw BTW)- the BOD could be more present.

It's one thing about voicing your opinion then to judge something you have no idea about. People have things go on everyday. You said your peace, let us say our peace. Could we not say the same thing when you and others jump on someone else? You guys are being hypocritical!!!

I for one am busy ALL the time so I may disappear from meetings, but I do check the board all the time. I take in sick animals so instead of going to meetings, I stay home to take care of them cleaning up their mess when they get sick, taking them to the vet, giving them meds, etc. Like the kitty I recently rescued.

To Rumble,

My avitar is my parrot thank you very much, this is NOT the only hobby I'm into!!! I used to raise parrots years ago.

Everyone can voice their opinions about something, but there's absolutely no need to be rude about it. IF I have something to say, I am NOT afraid to say it in your face. BUT at the same time I take in consideration of others since I don't know them that well to say certain stuffs that's rude. Sometimes you just have to take things with a grain of salt and THINK before you speak! IF you don't like what Jason have posted, you simply could have said with him being our president of the club, could he have made more attempt in doing more. But at the same time IF I were him, I have a hard time dealing with some people in this club because all the childish bickering.

Like it was said about by MikeMartinez, this is a HOBBY, not a company, business, etc. We ALL have our own work schedule, life, etc. We make the most of it. And NO we never learn enough from this hobby, isn't that the reason why we're all here to do is to learn from one another? In 6 months you can learn quite a bit YES, but in 6 years I've been doing this, I have gone through more ups and downs then you do in 6 months. Some people on here HAVE seen my tank and see what I battle through. I fought with bryopsis for 4 years before I finally found an solution that took care of it. I have tried EVERYTHING out there possible and spend hundreds to try to cure the problem. I have cured very sick fish from skin and bones to healthy fish. Could 6 months really teach you all that? I have spend hours and hours doing research on here on a weekly basis to better my tank. And I do help out the newbies with frags of this and that when they need it. Do I charge them? NO! I have given things out all the time because I LOVE to share my hobby and I am NOT in it for the money or bickering. I'm sure MANY on here can back me up that I am NOT cheap in giving out frags because I simply do not care. But when you bicker and carry on like some of you are doing ALL the time, maybe you need to find something else better to do. Because 2 years ago before some of you showed up, there was NO bickering like it is going on now. So either stop and respect or get going. I am tired of all this!

For the last time, I was not being RUDE. I was being a little rough, but he deserved it. Just leave it alone. Go ahead and post your opinions, but please stop directing them at me, because I really don't care what you have to say about this anymore.

Ive read this thread over several times debating on whether or not to chime in. Ill likely just make this one statement and then head back to my new little corner of the world.

I have been a member (or at least participated) for about 5 years now. this last swap was my 5th. I think I have attended a total of 5 meetings (maybe). When I first got here, I thought I knew alot about the hobby. I soon learned that the within the small amount of folks that were here at the time, there was still a good variety of opinions. that said, this variety of opinions is what the hobby needs most. Look at me. I have had a very successful tank for the last 4 years (save the last 6 months when i traveled every freaking week and let it go) by doing so very little to it. I didnt dose, I didnt change the water, I didnt run the skimmer, I didnt test the water, heck, i barely even changed the lightbulbs. you guys go read a book and tell me what they say about that. or go ask the so called "EXPERT." but you know what, I made it work for me. I loved my tank. It tore me apart to have to sell it. that tank looked the way it die BECAUSE OF THIS CLUB and the things it offered. swaps, trades, advice... I had never heard of a closed loop and penductors till I met fishdoc. Never knew anything other than softies and LPS till I met many here. RODI water!?! what was that?
In a few months I am going to setup what I believe will be (hopefully) a setup worthy of the tank of the month. it will only be worthy of that if I get varied advice from this and other forums and apply what fits my lifestyle. will i listen and use everything, NO. but know this, It will not be successful without you guys.

Bottom line, Yall can b!tch and fight all you want, but at the end of the day, what is our goal. Fill in that blank, and you will see why we have a club. For me, it is sharing our varied information to generate interest and awareness in the hobby and to provide tools to make each members tank successful. Look for a mission statement for the club and strive to ascertain it each time we get together, either here or in person.

OK, Im done. im sure we all want this to be. Lets move on and get back to promoting the hobby. Yall call me when its time! Otherwise, ill be chasing fish like the one in my avatar. Tight lines!

n/m....this is getting less interesting...

I have an idea. why doesn't everyone who is unhappy with the club start their own club. happens all the time. doesn't mean those on opposite sides of the fence can't still be friends.

Yes it does... If I see one of the members from the new club around I'm gonna jump them... MTRC fo LYFE SON!!!! :lol2:

I just started the MTRAMAAFOWLRAAOTOAWC.

that stands for the
"Middle Tennessee Reef and Marine Aquariums and Fish Only with Live Rock Aquariums and Other Types of Aquariums Welcome Club.

Who wants to join?

I'm glad you posted that, pickupman66. You're making a very good point; this club is definitely full of good people with a passion for the hobby, many of whom are very generous with their time and are always ready to lend a hand to others. MVlk and Andy are two that right off the bat were offering to help me out when I was in a little over my head with a new tank. AdrianBryce has also provided me with some good advice, and got several of the members here hooked up with some free purple hornet polyps (Only $6.50 shipping!), even though he's not in the reef club and is often treated like a second class citizen by some of the folks around here.

I love this hobby; there's so much diversity to it, from nanos to fish rooms, biotopes, picotopes, temperates, tropicals, fowlr, reef only, sps, softies, mixed, etc., etc. that there's a tank for practically every personality. We may all have a shared passion for reef tanks, but when we get into the business side of things, such as managing an organization like this, the fact that we're all reefers becomes insignificant. People who know each other personally feel a sense of loyalty that gets in the way when issues such as this pop up - nobody wants to be the bad guy, even though everyone knows what eyebedam did wasn't right. You all wanted for SOMEBODY to say something that expressed how you felt about the club's top official abandoning it for two months with no explanation or apology, and you all want the guy you elected as president to either step up and lead the club or step down so someone else can. So I said:

Glad everything's okay with you. However I'm with Zach in that if you want to be able to walk away for months whenever you don't like what's being said, the club probably should have someone a little more dedicated as it's president, don't you think?

Now I've been picked on for being rude, and even lori said it could have been more tactful, but I really don't know how I could have expressed those sentiments with more restraint and tact than that. Yes, it's maybe a little harsh, but how can you let someone know that their BS won't fly here next time without a little harshness? Next thing I know, reewik, mikeyjer, and several others are fighting over who gets to be the poster boy for hypocrisy (A little tip: If your post is more rude and childish than the one you're calling rude and childish, you might want to reel that one back a bit.) My response to eyebedam's post was an attempt on my part of getting a dialog going where something constructive could take place. Instead everyone has chosen to focus their attention on the argument itself.

Okay, I'm done. If you made it here, thanks for listening. By the way, does anyone else find it humorous that the day he posted this, our fearless leader went off on another spirit quest (or maybe consulting his magic 8 ball, I don't know what his deal is) while he decides if he's "all in or all out"? Classic. At least he told us he was leaving this time. (note: yup, that was rude and sarcastic, I made a joke at his expense. Sorry, but that's just how I roll sometimes.)

Dude, you are the man.

I agree. Now that said, we ALL know where we stand. Time to push on. get back to what needs to be done. VP should step in here and get things moving forward. thats the bottom line. I gladly woudl, but due to my location and situation, I cannot for fear of not having the time needed. this group has grown dramatically in the last two years. More than enough of us to get it back in teh right direction.

Ok what would you like to. Do. Impeach our president and start a new presidential election. I'm open just don't know how go with this.
If Im miss takeing I think there was not that many people wantting to run.

Seriously dude I don't know if you know me or not? You seem to have some serious issue with me & continue to express it. All I did was make a post about what was going on & you continue to try & press my buttons. I'm not gonna Internet argue back & forth with you. If there's a problem with me we can handle it any way you see fit.

Adrian, you can start any club you like I'm sure you will be all about becoming a member as long as there's no dues required.

Zach, as far as your I can't handle it comment trust me I've seen, done & exp more my days in the big sand box you could possibly imagine so to me that's just funny. It's more of do I want to listen to a select few whine & be negative about everything we do or not. You already put negativity on gabberjaws aquarium thread. She said Chattanooga you want Atlanta. Seriously just go with the flow.

Wow. You are awesome. Go on the attack much. My posts in this thread were tongue-in-cheek. Sure they were based on facts, like being charged more for frags (only by some people) for the sole reason that I don't feel it necessary spend money on a laminated piece of paper, even though I continue contribute to the local reefing community. Or the fact of the elitist attitude, carried on the shoulders of "old timers" in the hobby, who believe their X number of years of experience magically make them know more than people with less time in the hobby. (For example... It took me a google search and 3 weeks to take care of bryopsis....just sayin.) It's called the internet.

And the Zach attack. That is awesome.

You already put negativity on gabberjaws aquarium thread. She said Chattanooga you want Atlanta.

If him recommending another aquarium is negativity. wow. I am sure you remember this....

I wonder how shipping will be for that free hornet?

Adrian,

I hope it comes through for you. Thats a nice polyp, my only concern is look how many people are going to try & get in on this. Taking there time & effot to try & help build their for=um for a chance to get a free polyp. A pretty rare & pricey polyp at that. Im sure there will be a whole bunch of folks with the same idea as you (problem by the thousands since the reefing community is small word spread like wild fire on these things) & when if by chance they dont recieve the Hornet you know the bashing will never end, or best case scenerio they are able to somehow take care of everyone that has participated, the rarity of the Hornet will be no more.

My thoughts is the shipping/handling/packaging charge will be so high most folks will pass. This would give them a easy out. Im not bashing at all but 99% if something is to good to be true it normally has a catch. I hope you do get 1 & it grows like mad for you, so you can trade some locally.:)

nice how it is not negative at all because you put a smiley at the end. Take notes Zach!

last one

Well since you like to blunt allow me to do the same. I for 1 made it a point to let you know I was not bashing. All I was doing was letting you know what could happen in place of getting the free polyp. You,re right you dont have anything to lose for signing up for free & making 25 meaningful post other than your time. You also stated they had about 150 members as of the other day. How many do they have now? If all those people are doing like you do you really think they have the inventory of Hornets to spread the love? As more people join & make post it will move them up quickly in the google directory & it will grow really fast. This happens all the time when theres something really nice & free. On top of that you & the others have made there site grow. As far as your last comment about moving on, If all you want is someone to agree with you or give you a great job or a way to go then a public forum is not for you. All I did was offter a different scenerio to what may happen, It wasnt a attack or a bash.

Also you are correct that standard shipping is pretty standard of 50.00 overnight for corals, but thats for someone actually spending money & making a purchase, not for a free expensive Polyp, they will want to make something for the handling or put shipping really out there, thats just my opion. On top of that you are already trying to combine shipping on multiple free polyps, seriously do you think thats gonna happen? I will say this 1 more time. I hope you get it, you spend alot of time looking for great deals & bargains & I hope it pans out for you.

And all you had to do was say "cool. Hope it works out" or "sign me up". But you felt it necessary to lay out all the ways it would fail. Or that the people behind it, who I now know and speak with on the phone fairly often, were just using everyone to build a site. awesome.

oh and now those people have purple hornets. Just sayin.

lol - then show it.

You didn't even run the meeting I attended, you let Andy run it.

Then you ran away for 2 months.

Frankly at this point this entire thing amuses me and I'm laughing. As for negativity in that thread, I made a suggestion, and apparently from the poll results (half no, half yes) others agree. So if you think me making another suggestion is being negative, you have a serious issue understanding "negativity" from "suggestions" and "constructive criticism."

Let me add a smiley the end here, so this is automatically a nice post, no negativity.

":)"

I see what Jason is saying I'm with about to much negative within the club. And most of the time it's the same people.
Look at it this way. Comp. That like to support our club sees these threads and back out. Won't give use items to raffle or do us good with group buys. And athers that is thinking of joining. I know if I seen some threads like this 2yrs ago. I wouldn't joined. I just think that this back and forth dosent help anyone or get things done.

Me? You started this whole thing. I'm not sure what you expected when you hatched this topic...probably not all this, but you had to figure people would be a little irritated at your blase attitude about the club and your absence from it. The rest of the time I'm defending myself against your minions, which you've cleverly dispached to keep me occupied this whole time. I have to keep bringing you up because they keep bringing me up and pushing my buttons so I'll feel the need to respond again and again and again. It's a clever trap eyebedam, but it can't hold me forever!

Adrian, I remembered that thread last night, and when I re-read the thread from the beginning I noticed that everything was nice and happy and positive until Debbie Downer showed up. I think eyebedam was just looking for any excuse to criticize you because of the earlier tiff about membership dues.

Zach, of course suggestions are negative. You're implying that the status quo isn't good enough. Learn to be like the feather in Forrest Gump, or the bag in American Beauty, or the Baby Ruth in Caddyshack.

LOL, that's priceless.

:lol2:

My bad. I will learn to roll over like a good little minion and not say anything else. I am SO SORRY I made a suggestion to go to the Atlanta aquarium.

You know, if everyone agreed on everything, the world would be a very boring place.
