So how was Paletta?

Just curious how Paletta went. (not the knee guy!) :D I really didn't want to miss out on this but sometimes you just don't have a choice. :( I sure hope the club got a good video of it though!

I learned quite a lot during the meeting.

One thing I learned is how far off I am on my pronunciation of acropora, and most every other coral name as well.

There was a lot of good information on the subject of fragging and what methods work best.

I thought he was very good as well, I learned a lot and I've been misprounouncing coral names to. I'm still unclear on how to pronounce Chaeto. Is it like chayto, kayto, chatto?

Horizontal fragging pics were cool and he showed some some great growth pics, from frag to full colony.

I liked some of the information about the impact of lighting on the color of sps. Really solidifies the need for strong lighting from the right spectrum. Too bad that high par and good color spectrum is hard to come by.

My only complaint is that he knowingly gave all the acro frag winners redbugs and aefw. Lots of people have torn down their tanks and started over after getting the aefw. I hope what seemed like a win doesn't turn into a big loss for any of the club members.

I thought he was pretty informative and the part about nutrient levels and lighting was really good. Sure am glad i won some frags!! Hope i dont got redbugs though......

Don't forget the Bryopsis too. I take any of the frags of his you guys don't want. Paletta killing me after the coloration of SPS and lighting speech my setup on the new 150 is going to have to be a beast.

He made observations as to the impact of intense lighting from the right color spectrum on sps color. He showed evidence of corals loosing color under Iwasaki's or under less intense light. Some examples were the same colony.

His take on nutrients was similar to many on seeking low nutrients, but not too low. He made observations on sps color being poor in nutrient poor systems. He advocated feeding and experiments himself with various feeding methods.

Finally, he was a fan of bare bottom tanks, deltec skimmers, phosphate removers, and vodka.

Having said that, here come the jokes. Where's Travis and that cute truck of his. :D

Liked BB but was far from a BB purist. Runs a Mud fuge, and said at one point removed over 2.5 pounds of detritus in one vacuum job. Que Bomber fainting!

Like Deltec but didn't understand the price either.

He said he brought his nitrates down from 100 to 0, but that he was looking for another method. The issue is with no sand bed, there is no nitrate removal method. He really wasn't a fan of a sand bed in the tank, but sounded more open to a remote sand bed in a bucket that could be replaced every few years.

New product that you may want to try out..

http://www.fragfarmer.com/main.php?item_id=503&item_type=56

If you have RB or AFW infested frags which you can remove from your tank Pro Coral Cure awesome!! Like the Raid commercial said "Kills Bugs Dead"!! With just 15min dip. I got a bottle of it a few months ago up in Phoenix, stuff is wonderfull, but remember it is a dip not a tank treatment.

I guess I should have said.. If you get a new coral do a dip with this stuff according to the directions. I will be ordering some today..

Ed what does it come with?? It says a dosing type pump??

I liked the meeting and without it I would have never finished my lights that evening :p

Overall the presentation was wonderful! Very informative and I especially liked the pictures of the same corals in different tanks. I'd love to get more information regarding the types of pumps he recommended and what those inductors or eductors were? I can't do a search on the forums.

I also learned that going the cheap route isn't always the best route :p

Here is some info on eductors.

I can't do a search on the forums.

While you can not do a search directly on RC, you can do a google search with a site limitor. give this a run in google.

site:www.reefcentral.com eductors
Edit: i had to bold the '.' so the text would show up in the right format. no spaces between 'site:www.' and one space after the .com to be used as the search string

Good meeting! I was given reason after reason as to why I need to dump the PC's and get real lights. a lot of good information about water chemisty as well, i was thinking it was a SPS only meeting, glad he threw in other general knowledge.
