I got this from a good source that Robert (Leopard Wrasse) has gotten himself a 75 gal reef tank. This is great news, as Robert has been searching and searching and procrastinating and procrastinating.... for what seems like forever. Lets hope he puts some of his reefing talents to good use soon. Oh and CONGRATULATIONS Robert.

Also heard a rumor that he is thinking about running the new LED light system..... tune in later to find out if this is true or just rumor.:bum:

He obviously has way more coin than the rest of us since he is single!!!!!! I do hope he does get it, I have been considering it myself.

So Robert, are you running an open top with these? or are you just going to hang the pendant over the tank. The reason i ask is that with LED you get no heat on the bottom, all the heat comes out the top of the fixture and trust me its hot on top, like you cant even touch it. They put out just as much heat as anything else out there just on the backside of the led instead of the front according to sanjay. He showed us pictures of his last night and he said he was not at all impressed. He could not keep sps at the middle of the tank. Only right near the surface.
Just trying to help, and pass along a few things he brough up. If i remember correct his PAR charts put the Solaris LED at around 25 PAR that was for the 2-25 unit. He suggested waiting until they can come up with something brighter than a 3 watt LED. But thats one guys opinion, have you looked on reef central and seen pics of tanks lit with LED? I did see them at MACNA on a tank, and it was very blue it did have the shimmer like a halide which was nice, but the thing with LED He also told us was that at say 6" above the water the MH has tons more PAR then when you move it about 12" above the metal halide drops off a bunch but the LED doesnt. I'm not sure how usefull that is but one of the points he brought up.

I have the Solaris LED unit. It is not nearly as hot on top as you describe, it's warm to the touch, but thats about it. The internal temp on my 48" unit never rises above 105 and it runs for 14 hours.

I am keeping SPS; although I've only had the unit a couple of weeks, so I cant report any experience yet.
