ok hope its ok to do a plug (won a 6gal jbj nano from aquarium works, in burbank, ca) theyre a new store. so happy i won! the first time i ever won anything... yay!

well anyways, i dont know what to do with the tank now. it only comes with and 18watt 50/50 light and i want to make it into a reef tank. i dont want to spend more money on lights. so what can i put in here?

would mushrooms be ok? what else? i want to set this up asap. so excited!

anyone have pix of what you have in your 6gal nano's?

First do some research on how to care for a saltwater aquairum.

U will need 8-10 lbs of cured live rock.

allow the tank to cycle for 2 weeks.

Add clean up crew.(snails)

shrooms,xenia,green star polyps,& zooanthids will do fine under that light.

He's been in the hobby for quite some time now and has helped me set up my 20G nano, we both just never owned anything this small before (6G) since we know the drawbacks of having a small tank (i.e. limited space in the tank, the consequence when something dies...). We have some live rock and live sand that we can add to this and also we only use SCRIPPS NSW for our tanks.

So, does anyone have any pics to share of their 5.5 or 6G nano's to give us an idea what we can add on this tank?

well here's my old 5.5

was up for a few months then its now transferred into my 12 gallon. it was more of a holding tank for the beginner corals i had in the beginning of the hobby

I set up a 6 gallon jbj nano cube for my mantis shrimp and I put in bubble, brain, leather, star polyps, mushrooms, zoanthids, candy coral(i think thats what they are called) and they are doing fine

One of my buddies that I work with has a 6g nanocube that he's had set up at work for about a year now. He has 2 smallish clowns, a smallish green bubble tip, an umbrella cora, and some trumpet coral. Also a few snails. This might not help you, though, because he modded out the hood and added some extra lights. He also just talked to nanocustoms and is ordering a NEW hood with a 3rd light on there, so..
Anyway, you can keep a decent amount of livestock in there, as long as you're religious about your water changes!

NC 6g with stock lights, the next corals were fine:
- white xenia, gsp, red mushrooms (if I allow them) - at the top,
- neon-green candycane, branching hammers and frospawn (will overgrow the space and be fragged), green base - brown hair hairy mushroom (also overgrows the space in 1 yr) - at medium level,
- white lemnalia and non-photosynthetic corals at the bottom (feeding of non-photosynthetic will make troubles with water quality, too much troubles).

He got the new hood in from nanocustoms, and it's NICE.
He has 3x 18watt PCs, for a total of 54 watts. One bulb us actinic, the other 2 are 50/50s, but it's not quite blue enough for his tastes so he might switch out one of the 50/50s for a 14,000k bulb.
He got the nanocustoms fan upgrade, and it's pretty loud. Luckily an AC vent is right above his desk and that's just a tad louder, so we can't really hear it =) (I sit in the cube next to him)
As far as specific corals.. Zoos are some of the lowest light needing corals you will find. Yes, they would prefer MH lighting, but most corals would. Zoos would be more than happy under his hood. He doesn't happen to have any, but that's just his preference I believe.
I don't have the experience that dendro982 has, so I don't know if I would trust myself to put so many delicate corals in a NC6. Newbies like you and I, euphoricgear, would do just fine with some zoos, mushrooms, and xenia in a stock NC 6 gallon. I think there are plenty of color choices within those coral groups to keep me happy.
Sometime in the near future I'll be setting up a nano reef (either a 5.5gallon AGA aquarium or a modded 12g NC) for my desk at work, and when I do I'll make a nice long thread on it!
