So it begins...DIY

Seamed edges is what most glass cutters do just to make the edges safe to work with. No special look to them, but dull to the touch. So you won't cut yourself or anything else. Not sure if its the same as Polished.

Lol thx. He loves that toy. We put it up (away) at night. and he sits and looks at it while he whines hahah

Ok, so it has been a while since I've posted anything on this. I'm taking things slow and moving along as I find the time. I don't want to rush anything. The tank is all setup and running. My light finally came in. A 150w MH with (x2) 14w T-5s with Antics. I had to rig the light to keep up high off the tank for the time being. The front posts will be cut shortly.

Once I finish up the new sump; the heater and skimmer will be moved there, and the Powerfilter will be removed all together. The skimmer is a Tunze I got off Steve earlier this year, and a PhosBan reactor with a maxi-jet will be added as well.

Floating around in the tank are some Red and White Mangroves I will be using in the sump. The red need to soak in the water for a few days; then will be transplanted in some potting soil mixed with some of the aquarium sand (mixed together with the tank water).

Finishing touches to come shortly (includes moving the TV =p )

I hope you aren't putting that potting soil in the tank...they beef up potting soil with phosphates and nitrates to encourage plant growth, but that would be deadly or at the very least turn your tank into an algea garden.

Nooo....they are in a separate container and sitting in the windowsill. There is a type made for aquarium/pond use, but I don't know how that would work in a reef. I used sand and water from the tank for the mixture, but not in the tank!

Thx for the concern though.

I added some LR from my brother's (Hybridazn) tank to help with seeding. 20lbs of LS were added as well. Purpleup dosing will begin shortly.

First Readings:

pH: 8
Temperature: 79
Alkalinity: 10 dKH
Calcium: 480
Phosphate: 0
Ammonia: .25
Nitrite: 1
Nitrate: 5

The LR and LS were just added, so I expected some of the readings to be a little higher. I'm skipping the Purpleup dosage today since the Calcium was high.

It helps speed up the growth of Coraline Algae. I know a few people that have used it and with good results. I'm going this route because I'm starting with Dead rock minus what I used to help seed.

Today's readings...

pH: 8.2
Temperature: 81
Salinity: 1.026
Alkalinity: 10 dKH
Calcium: 460
Phosphate: 0
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 1
Nitrate: 10

I still need a test for mag. As of right now I'm doing 7gal water changes weekly. I mix the water the night before and use water conditioner. Sadly I'm using tap. After the holidays I'm investing in a RO/DI. It's something I know I should have gotten sooner.

I'm going to make the back wall pretty much into my Zoa Garden, so I'll be looking for some frags shortly. If you have anything please let me know. Thanks : )
