So I've been sick. . .

And I haven't been able to do a water change in 2 1/2 weeks. I just did one but I realized I only had enough for a 10% water change, I tested the water a few days ago and the parameters we're perfect, and I plan on doing another test once the water settles today. Should I be at all concerned since I won't be able to get anymore water till a few days or do a water change till next week, and how large of a water change should I do when I get the chance?

10% every week or 20% every two weeks is a common place to start, but it isn't written by Jehovah.

Some people do 1% a day, and some people hardly ever do them.

I would just assume your normal routine when you get the chance, unless there is a problem like ammonia, etc.

There's a lot missing here... basically we need to know what's in your tank. Personally I do a 10% every 2 weeks. If you have a higher bio load on your system you may want to bump that up or do them more frequently. If you've done tests and parameters are good a few days ago I'd say go ahead with the 10% water change and then get back on schedule when you feel better. 10% is better than nothing and water quality shouldn't just drop off over night unless something catastrophic has occured.

Sorry to hijack but your signature got me curious. Newbie here. I am setting up a 10G fuge HOB for my 40G breeder. I am interested in knowing how you setup yours. You can PM me if you want.

My bioload is fairly small, its a two month old 14g tank with one 2 1/2 inch chromis, 3 red hermit crabs, 3 blue hermit crabs, maybe 11 hitchhiker stomatella snails (maybe more :/) and perhaps a bristle work lurking under the substrate though I havent seen it in a month. I usually do a 20% water change every two weeks but as you know I haven't been able to do that.

I haven't changed the water in almost a year now and have gone much longer on previous tanks.. ;)
Parameters on my current tank (that I measure..alk/cal/mag/nitrates/phosphates) are all "perfect".. I do dose cal/alk/mag as needed..

A few weeks ain't squat... Don't sweat..

Thanks guys. Guess I'm starting to learn everyone maintains their tanks differently and there's no one way to run an aquarium right.

Glad you are well.
My 2 week planned vacation turned into a 5 week medical issue.
My pet sitter was able to keep up RODI for top off, but my 125 reef had no salt water changes the whole time. The GHA love it!
When I was able resume WC, I did 30 gallons a week for 2 weeks and the tank is bouncing back just fine, other than the algae removal. That will take another month.

My "normal" water change schedule is 30% or so every 6 weeks. Sometimes a little longer, more often if things don't look right.

As long as parameters are in line and everything is doing ok I don't sweat it at all.

Should be fine every now and then to do that. Just keep an eye on the water and you should be good. It's when you don't change it for a month that it causes problems.
