yesterday i did very little to my tank and something bad happened,
1. I changed out a light from a 6700 to actinic
2. I added a yellow gorgonian
3. moved my 2 nano koralias to get the gorgonian more flow
4. I added 2 red fiddler crabs
5. I fragged a pom-pom xenia (so i could get it growing on a different rock)
6. I tested my water, was good as usual
3hours after doing all this i found my Bangagi Cardinal on his side gasping! over the next hour he gasped and died...
I took him out after he expired and examined him for signs of disease, wounds, etc. I found no indications of any foul play or bad nasties....
I got to thinking it was the change in light, but no, that wouldnt do it. anyways I went to bed and got up this morning determined to find some answers so i went down to my LFS to get my water tested and to talk to my good friend, the owner!
she was kinda baffled as well, then i saw a fish in one of her DT's at the bottom of the tank not looking good at all. I asked what happened to that tang and she said, "well the dummy swam into the big LTA and i dont think he is gonna pull through."
I said really, what are the symptoms of that, she described it and we both had the same thought, maybe it was the BTA!
so, what do you guys think? sound about like what could have happened? im thinking when i moved the flow in the tank that the bangagi could have been caught off guard and accidentily ran into my BTA.
just my theory, cause nothing else adds up
