I basically follow melevs' instructions here:
Red Bugs - No More!
Here are the basic steps when I treated mine:
- Wait until lights out.
- Crash the interceptor into power form and divided the correct dosage base on water volume. 1 interceptor pill treats 300g of water so assuming you have 100g of total water volume, you will need 1/3 of the power. Don't worry about the exact dosage and people have used as much as 3x the dosage without problem. The exposure time is more important.
- Take a cup of water from the tank and dump the power into the cup. Stir the cup for a few minutes until majority fo them dissolved.
- Turn off the skimmer, remove the filter socks, carbon and GFO.
- Pour the cup water to a high flow area.
- Turn the skimmer back on the next morning. Run carbon and do a small water change if you want.
- Inspect coral for red bug. You shouldn't see any.
- Repeat step #1 to #7 next week. And again for another week for a total of 3 dosages.
People have report skimmer overflowing from step #6 but I didn't experience this. I also didn't do 3 treatments; I did 2. After the first treatment, I can't find any red bugs but decided to do one more just in case.
