So one of my frags had red bugs

Sorry to hear about your red bugs. The treatment routine that was posted is good but beware. You must do three treatments to be sure. Sometimes two doesnt do it. Why does it matter? They do develop resistence so by undertreating you are adding to the issue. Also be sure not to under dose. I used three tabs in my system last time i had red bugs and total volume in this system is about 425 gallons. Before i upped the dose i was seeing them return every six months or so. I know it was from survivors as i wasnt adding corals to this tank at that time. Large tank long time to notice but its been years now with no recurrance after i upped the dose.

Some pods will make it. ALmost all your shrimp and crabs will die. Coral banded shrimp seem to be most likely to survive. Coral crabs all die. Mysis all die. Hermits all die. You will get a bio bloom from a limited die off. I reseed my system a couple months after treatment to replace a lot of it.

Yeah, it sucks. Planning on doing three treatments, with a week in between each. Using 1/3 tab per treatment.

I got the red bugs from a fellow reefer here on RC. I was over his house yesterday and we spotted the infestation. He had no idea (his coral looks great). I think he feels worse about giving them to me then I do....in fact he wouldn't even let me pay for the interceptor. Sucks cause he has a really big system he has to treat now, and has a TON of micro fauna.

When I did mine a few years back the crabs and pods that survived were much larger than the garden variety. So I think that the larger ones definitely have a higher tolerance to the treatment then the small ones. I just did a 30% WC after the 3rd treatment and was fine. Just go get you a piece of LR, live sand or chaeto from a friend and the pods will reestablish themselves fairly quickly unless you have a mandarin.

So say I do a 30% WC after the third treatment, how long do I wait until I can add more pods/hermits/shrimp?

When I treated my tank I waited about a day to reintroduce my hermit crabs. I put the dose in one evening, then did a 10% water change, added carbon and turned on the skimmer the next evening. Actually the skimmer ran the whole time but the airline was submerged to eliminate foam.
I had two scarlett hermits floating in a platic mixing bowl in the sump and they went right back into the tank without a problem.
For the third treatment I forgot to remove the crabs from the start. I realized they were still in there after 30 minutes or so and could only find one. The crab I pulled late survived and the one left behind was toast.
The pods rebounded over a couple month period with no intervention on my part.

question for you guys,

I am about to do the treatment, and wanted to know if my worms and ... which live in the sand bed are going to die off as well ? any IDea ?

thanks.

I wonder how long it takes the carbon to remove the meds from the water.

I'm under the impression the meds aren't very long lasting in our tanks anyways and at 24 hours are far below lethal levels. Running carbon would likely mop the remainder up pretty quickly.

Just saw that I have red bugs. It stinks but its almost a relief as I couldn't figure out why some corals (acros) weren't looking the best.

But now I need to find Interceptor. One site that seems to sell it without a prescription just doesn't seem very authentic.

I am not sure where to get it. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I called up the vet and explained the situation. They gave me a prescription for interceptor with out a problem.
