so our tank was vandalized.

I'm sorry, I can't believe anyone would do such a thing. Such a selfish act, I hope they are caught.

Speaking as a professional in the aquarium manufacturing industry that crack is not the result of an impact. It is a stress crack and probably started at the corner and propagatated out in two directions. Not unusual in bullnose tanks where the front and sides are made from one piece of glass.

Impact cracks will look like a starburst with many small cracks and chips radiating out in different directions. Stress fractures look like long lines and are generally only a handful of cracks that travel across the pain.

I don't want to comment any more specifically as I am not a representative of the manufacturer but you can rule out vandalism as the cause of this crack.

thanks everyone !

so we are still waiting on nuvo marine's reply- we cant really do much until we get a response from them :twitch: but of course im just itching to get another tank up and running.

i swear though there is some force that wants our poor sea horses to to go through every hurdle imaginable- USD had a campus wide blackout, all our generators were down and we had no power for who knows how long. it was so bad the emergency system didnt even work so they couldnt even notify us of the blackout. so we had to run out and get battery operated pumps. all was well until the power went back on, and sucked one of our little babes into the overflow. thank god that the sea horse was a millimeter slightly bigger than the space in the overflow otherwise we would have lost him/her.

however now they are happy as ever ! yay ! :D

I've learned a long time ago email and call sometimes the emails never come back except maxspect who emailed back in less then an hour

Ive had this happen to a tank and yes it happens out of nowhere with no signs ahead of time. Believe it or not it was actually a tank that had Sea Horses in it, I had them for over a year. One of them was dead when I came home, the other was in 3 inches of water at the bottom but luckily survived, if it was hit with something hard you should see some "spider webbing" where the impact occurred, it is possible that someone pushed on it very hard and caused the crack but it definitely doesn't look like impact from a baseball bat or anything like that.

I unfortunately dont have the authority to take in any tanks at the moment, i'm only the assistant- Kayla needs to wait for nuvo marine, its a department issue we need an official "opinion" per say that says it was a stress crack so we can move forward. (what they say determines how we approach public safety, where we can put the tank, locks, etc...)

ill make her bug them again tomorrow when i get into work.

I hope it was a stress fracture for sure. I still have hope in humanity and think it was just glass quality and construction. Good luck......as for the research part and donation Gresham was spot on.

so heres the deal- the guy said that from his experience with hairline/stress fractures, he couldnt find a clear point of origin of where the stress fracture would have originated, and he also said, like everyone else, that it doesnt look like it was hit (would have a different break pattern)
even so, they are replacing the tank and he is having it personally delivered by his own delivery truck etc etc

so i guess it is still kind of up in the air as to what happened. he did say that there have been one or two tanks of a different model that exploded via hairline/stress fractures but im guessing that he was able to find a clear point of origin on those...

YAY problem solved !!!

Awesome......That's a great news. :celeb1:
