What is the better of the three for a beginner? I have a 72 gal. bow front, and i dont know which of these to use. Is there a difference besides what they are made of? If so what is it? I dont want to spend alot on the base so what would you recoomend? thanks

What type of tank are you planning on setting up? That will make a big difference.

If you want to fish only or fish only with live rock, then crushed coral or any of the cheap, meaning dry, sand packages will work. I have black, tahitian moon or some nonsense like that, sand in my fish only with live rock.

If you are going for a reef and want to keep costs down, then steven_dean17's suggestion is the way to go. Either use dry sand and seed with live sand from the LFS or seed it with the GARF Grunge. Over time, everything will eventually become live.

The main difference is that if you can use all live sand and live rock, then you may be able to cut your cycle time down drastically although there is no guarantee of that. You will also pay a whole lot more to get started this way and you have to decide if you think it is worth it or not. This is the way I went for my reef tank.

Welcome to your new addiction and Reef Central. You have come to the right place for your questions to get good answers, and what you will hear over and over again is to be patient and take your time.

Good luck!
