am I confused? when I follow the link to the backup battery, and select the lowest power drain (50W), the different options still last only 2 hours or less. This won't cut it in the case of a 2 day outage....

I'm wondering which product I should buy to prevent a similar tragedy.

(I'm very sorry about the loss you experienced....that is just heartbreaking!)

They do help. We also have battery backups for 2 of our Vortecs.

If you are home when the power goes out you can also move one of your Vortecs closer to the surface to purposefully pull an air vortex every once in a while, to help oxygenate your tank

Sorry about your loss. A while back I lost power for about 1 1/2 days. I didn't have any battery pump or back up, so I just splashed the water around with my hands making waves across the tank. I did this for a few minutes every few hours and all my fish and inverts survived.

i bought my battery powered air pumps from wal-mart. they are in the fishing section and cost like 10-15 bucks.

I know how it feels to lose your fish and everything in your tank. I feel for you man. I just got my tank up and running today after the fire took everything, but my live rock. (3 months ago.)

I have the strongest backup battery and I ran a 11 watt power head and a 20 watt airpump for almost 1 1/2 full days (ok about 30 something hrs) when my power went out in the winter storm, it really depends on how big the electrical equippment u are trying to run.........hopefully this helps
