So the wife wants a koi pond. Talk to me Goose.

I stopped fighting with the waterfall thing, so have just simplified using a pump with no sponge and de-clogging it every few weeks.

She wants the "water feature" effect. I have a tendency to go overboard. I'd rather do it right, versus fighting with it. I pulled a plumb line and I think it's only going to end up being 18"-20" deep. What are my ease versus expense options. Probably be about 100 gallons if that.

Tropills pm sent.

Andrew, will call you later.

I was fighting with clogs and pinched tubing. I was on a shoestring budget when we did it and it was basically a "pond in a box" kit. Better quality materials and a stronger pump would have most likely made the waterfall last more than a couple years.

I like he Giant TCR Advanced SL4, only because I might be able to get a deal. But, between a hunting lease, a monster price tag family vacation for NEXT summer, some necessary house maintenance, AND a pond....looks like daddy's getting a lookie no touchie on the new bike. :sad1:

Mines a 2005. Doing well, very nice. Can't really justify it, but I might be able to get a killer deal, so it gets ones wheels turning.

So I have the basics figured out. Dig hole line with EPDM. Pondscape.

What are the basics if filtration? I can probably build a skimmer box and waterfall box. Are bio balls and filter pads what people use?

What pump?

you need an underlayment for that liner to protect it. you could just use old carpets, or get a commercially made thing. I used carpets.

for filtration I just use a mag 2 attached to one of those flat pond filter pad plastic boxes that sits on the bottom, but I tend to go underboard. that thing clogs all the time, but who cares. it's a pond. I didn't even have a pump for the first year and a half.

a skimmer box seems way overboard for a pond that size, and I can't help with the waterfall. I personally think waterfalls on a really small pond tend to be kind of cheesy unless they are really well done.

Not going for a full on waterfall, more like some spill off from one rock back into the pool. The "bobby Brady volcano" of rock is not something I'm looking to do. I like the thought of the filtration tucked away in one bucket. A small skimmer with a pump back to a DIY waterfall reservoir. Looking for a tinkle verses Viagra falls.

So it looks like this is finally happening. Electrician is going to run electric out to area in question. Biggest issue is, how to build up back side of down slope to support the weight of water. Boulders? Pre-fab pavers/retaining wall is cheesy.

Ideas?

a skimmer box is nice. it hides the pump and has a basket . my waterfall pump is 7250 gals an hour and runs 24 7 . your pond should be aleast 3 feet deep.

My only advice is this Check our local building codes before you put shovel to earth. Lol Town of Camillus can be a real PIA about that stuff
And when you do let me know what you find out bc I think I'm going to be doing one before to much more time goes by...Lol

I doubt for the size you're contemplating that you'll run into any code issues, but wise to check...
Here's shot from mine. I have a few that I want to rehome if you decide to go bigger.
