So what's the issue with bubble algae

I had an issue like this along time ago, not doing the routine maintenance and poor water quality. I used Marine S.A.T. like 4 bottles at once in a 72 gallon bowfront and within 2-3 months it was almost gone. The theory is the bacteria takes the place of the algae on the rock, it eats all the available nutrients. worked 4 me

So I can't get the camera to work but here is a description.

Light green almost almost se through. Looks like a oval standing on its end. The top and bottom have an open circle looks like a mouth if you will. It does not look like bubble at all.

Will try the camera again. I looked on Melve's and did not see anything like it at all.

I've got a couple that grew during the cycle. When it was finished I added a couple of Emerald crabs but they didn't touch them. I guess the nutrients are pretty low because it hasn't spread at all. That tank in the hotel is mental, no idea it could get like that !

For the record, for the past two years I've had a very tiny bit of bubble algae which has never become a problem. And this is over the course of a number of changes and having had other algaes become problems...

well, i'm basically almost back to square one with my system after an almost 3 year battle to eradicate the several species of valonia that ate my lunch.

i was heavy into macros. i could control everything , even the scary pest ones, but not the valonia. it is indestructible and low nutrient and any amount of light is fine. once it spores, thousands pop up everywhere. they will crowd anything attached to rocks, like shrooms and zoo's get smothered.

my system is stripped down to basically rock + algae blenny and a few hardy stragglers that survived the valonia(like my non-photo stuff in the dark sump heh)

i see 3 of them this morning that i will knock loose and siphon out. i'm hoping the nightmare will be over by march, the 3 year mark and that most of the spores have sprouted or whatever..

from henceforth i will maintain zero tolerance for valonia.

i would recommend you gently roll that thing loose and get rid of it, and any others you see. man i respect the valonia. and have the scars to prove it.

I had eradicated it from my display but it kept sneaking back in and i couldn't figure out why. Then I went to clean my overflow and found the mother lode. Those darn bubbles are plenty sneaky....
