So when is RODI really needed?

Thanks, I will pick up an RO/DI unit.. or look at adding a DI to my RO unit.

Is the membrane flush kit worth it? and is a built in TDS meter any different then getting a hand held TDS meter? is it just a convenience feature to have it included?

How does the aquaticLife twist in work for you? I can get an RO/DI one from my LFS for $120. only 50GPD but that's enough for me. Does the cost of replacing the cartridges end up costing a lot more in the long run?

Yes, replacing the carts on that thing is more expensive in the (not so)long run.

Is there something wrong with the RO unit you received? if it uses standard filters it is cheaper to just order a new set and an add on canister for DI resin.

You can get a DI canister with TDS meter as well https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/single-deionization-canister-with-dm-1-dual-tds-meter.html

It is easier and cheaper in the long run to get standard sized housings so you can go into any plumbing store and get cheap replacements. Sooner or later you will upgrade, might as well do it now.

Yes, I am paying for the convenience of the twist off with higher cartridge costs. It’s not a good financial solution but if it helps me keep up on the maintenance...i’ll Take it.

Otherwise, the regular RODI is a better decision, totally agree

Thank you. Seen far to many posts by same person giving questionable if not misinformation.

What do you know? :mtool:

You don't have a clue what is or is not questionable or misinformation.

My tank pays for itself with the corals I grow and sell the excess with almost 3 decades of experience.

Your giving stupid advise right now as there is no debate that RO/DI is factually needed to run a reef tank long term.

There are no successful long term coral tanks that do not use RO/DI.

Anyone can do this for a short while on tap, its just not advised.

I learned the hard way and if I seem to possess to much vitriol its because I often did not listen, and don't want to see people making the same mistakes I made when I was new.

I'm sure there are successful reefers who use tap.. but I'm not here to debate or get into a heated argument.

I was able to get a BRS Standard 4 stage RO unit with the add-on DI unit from a local person who recently got out of the hobby! I just need to replace the media/filters and I'm good to go!
