Soaking food in garlic

I have always added garlic juice to my mysis and Rod's food. Is this ok? Do not all fish like garlic? I do not want them eating food just to stay alive, I would like them to enjoy it. Is garlic everyday too much for clownfish, tailspots, hawkfish, and cleaner shimps?

There are studies that show that feeding your fish garlic long term may be harmful. It is suspected to cause liver damage in fish.

Garlic is a natural immune booster with antibiotic properties. Soaking food in raw crushed garlic juice can keep fish healthy. Just don't let chunks float around in the tank. It can get stinky.

Adding garlic to frozen food can help entice new arrivals or finicky fish to eat. Using it for anything else doesn't make sense to me, in that case add selcon.

I've always had good luck using garlic guard, seemed to help get my finicky fish to show more interest in prepared foods when switching them from live and if it is good for human immune systems I would assume its the same for our finned friends. But I have no scholarly evidence to back this, its just what seems to have worked for me.

As long as your feeding your fish a wide variety of foods there's really no need for things like garlic or Selcon IMO.

A lot of people make the same bad assumptions with their dogs. As healthy as garlic is for people it is toxic for dogs. Also, I had a dog that really liked chocolate and would steal it if I didn't hide it. Probably if I had put hersheykisses in her kibble it would have stimulated her appetite. But I didn't because even though chocolate is fine for people it will kill a dog. She didn't die the first time she got into my stash of candy, but that didn't mean I let her eat it all the time either.

Yes, garlic, onions, raisins, and grapes are all bad for your dog. Grapes and raisins cause liver damage. Garlic and onions restrict blood vessels. I believe chocolate does the same thing.

Exactly. Any benefit is far out weighed by the harm. Smoking cigarettes relaxes me but there might be long term heart and lung problems so I don't do it.

Throw the garlic out!

I don't know...I use Garlic Guard and I think Seachem is a pretty solid company that puts out good products. I think I'll trust their product and keep using it. Only time will tell.

As far as dogs and chocolate, it's the caffeine never give dogs any thing with caffeine. Raisins and grapes and even green peppers are harmful to dogs. Remember pets metabolisims are different from humans. Don't make the mistake of thinking if I can eat it I guess my dog can too.

After using selcon on a fish with a flesh wound, I'm a believer in it. It had a flesh wound that just wasn't healing. Started soaking food in selcon and feeding it to the fish and within a week it started to heal up. Unlike garlic, there are no health side effects to using selcon.
