Socks AND no socks...

I am mostly a coral guy but a fish guy by trade. IMHO I like the sock, sponge or floss 24/7 because I like to feed my coral everyday for better colors and growth but I want pristine water as well. So every morning and every evening my filtration goes off line for 45 minutes while I feed Scientific and Coral Frenzy. Then filtration comes back online and I remove the remaining food. I also skim wet 24/7 to remove the rest of anything the filter misses. Granted I have no pods, but no algae either. My PO4 stays at .02 -.03 and NO3 < 3ppm. And you should see the immediate feeding reaction from the coral when the pump goes offline. Even before I feed most times. Of course it seems all my animals are trained to indicate a desire to be fed. My personal favorite is the Harlequin Shrimp, who will perch on top an open brain at the front of one tank and stare at the glass once a week or so waiting to be fed CC leg As far as my big boy I utilize socks on it changed daily as the waste coming off this fwlr is pretty heavy. Of course the boys at the shop do all the grunt work on this guy. LOL if you are following Tim and Terry

Lobophora likes clean water so your not going to starve them out by making it cleaner. I love filter socks either way though but I don't run them 24/7.

Edit: Just wanted to add that the only success Ive heard of against lobophora is a Blonde Naso and a Sally Lightfoot.

Thanks for that. I setup a new GFO reactor a couple of weeks ago. Will give that a couple months first see how the lobophora likes it. If its not receeding will get a Blond Naso. I'm fully stocked, so will need to return some fish to the LFS first. I have a beautiful Sailfin tang that is outgrowing my tank now. He will be the first candidate.

I run no socks, I would however be interested to hear your review once you have it installed. I like the concept of it more than socks.

A friend of mine local is inking of switching out his socks for the rottertube. I never heard of it until he mentioned it to me. Supposed to be a little bit less maintenance he says.
Not sure I am going for it.....
