Sohal Addition with Moorish Idol?

Thinking of adding a Sohal Tang to my 300 gallon mixed reef. It's approx 4" and I already have 2 hippo tangs 5" & 8" and a yellow tang 5" but wondering if he would pester/kill my Moorish Idol 5"?

No way would I chance that, especially if your idol is healthy, that's an accomplishment in itself. I had a sohal that was added last to a tank with aggressive passer and queen angels, clown trigger, 3ft BDM etc and this sohal still picked on everyone! I wouldn't even bother trying it to have it not workout. There are plenty of other great tangs out there.

Angels is right, Sohal is quite a bit more aggressive then the rest of the tangs, similar to Achillies, they need to be king, everything else in the tank should be considerably smaller

Any pictures of this tank? Must be beautiful with a moorish idol. Can you tell me what order you added your fish and if anyone bothers your idol?

I had a sohal, he did alot of pacing but my tank is only 150g, I sold him to a bigger tank.

I would leave things as they are. I've had my idol for a year now and had a marroon clown bully him in the past. They cant defend themselves very well so need a very peacefull tank IMO.

Just curious how the consensus is that the Idol is going to be the one targeted by the Sohal? I probably would adventure to guess the larger Hippo, and the 5", probably pretty stubborn YT, would be the issues....

Such a pity they are so are a lovely looker, everyone(well many) would like them but they're such b#######s!
Tell us about the idol. I read the idol and regal threads back to back, got one and a regal angel on the same day. My lfs got them in for me and they never left the bags to go in their tanks. I never posted this at the time as i didnt want to get flamed. They've survived a tank upgrade and are going strong after a year. I think they helped each other start eating. They eat everything i feed them-pellet, flake, frozen, fresh, banana(thanks paul B).
I grow sponges on live rock in the sump and feed them to them.
I'd like to post on the primers at some point but i didnt want to tempt fate.lol.
If you ask me, your idol is such a stunning show piece you dont need another large fish. Well done!
I have only one tang-a yellow. My other large fish is my beloved box fish. The family love her to bits. She always comes over, when i'm cleaning inside the tank, to say hello or squirt water at me.

I think a Sohal would be bad news. A MI might be able to hold its own with some tangs like the regal but I wouldn't chance it with a sohal for sure.

I don't know if the Sohal would specifically target the MI, but they do tend to be aggressive towards everyone and while other tangs or angels might be able to take some Sohal bullying, I don't know if I would chance a healthy, eating MI.

IMO it is a risk, especially with a sohal. That being said it can be done especially considering the sohal is smallest fish and the last fish. You must weight your own advantages and disadvantages. If you decide to do it I would introduce the sohal in an egg crate box for awhile and see how he interacts. Sohals can be mean but I think that 8" hippo might just keep him in his place.

Another tip if you do plan on adding a sohal. Quarantine that guy and feed him like crazy. Make him extremely FAT. Most aggression in fish diminishes when they are kept fed, fat, and obese
