Sohal as been eaten by my Angler!

I do a lot of research before I purchase any fish to put in my tank. All my fishes are a minimal to equal or bigger than size of the frogfish. So that way I thought it was a safe move to buy that fish. But know that I have seen the unbelievable (well, for me...) I'm considering preparing my 90 g just for him. I'dont want to see him eat any more fish.

snorvich- Just to get back on the research thing... There is not a lot of info on that fish except the fact that he eat fish like so many others. So where does this stop. I would understand for a goby, clown, chromis, shrimp, etc. But a fish larger than himself, I was shocked. That's my point of getting shock. Not the fact that he eats fish. I didn't want to sound like I'm a little kid who mix everything up to see what happen when I started this thread. I just wanted to let people know that a frogfish/angler can and will eat fish bigger than they are.

Ozadars- It's a giant frogfish. Are you sure eel are safe with them since I got an 24in snowflake eel that I could put with him in the 90 g.

Peter Schmiedel- A shark is a predator but do they all eat human? But I do understand your point. They eat fish.

Do you guys know if it's possible to have two frogfishs in the same tank? I'm talking of two of the same size and not one smaller than mine. Just don't want to mix up nobody this time.

Thank you all for the reply on this thread. This is my second thread started and I like it here.

Glad you like it here, it's awesome, wish i would help on your questions, but i don't have to much experance with thoes fish, good luck though!!

Asuming that the fish are fed good, the size is tha same you can keep mupliple and even combine other ambush predators like Rinopias in the same tank.

You can have multiple frogfishes to a tank but you are never really safe. Even among mated pairs, one or the other has been known to eat or kill it's mate (Pietsch & Grobecker).

Scott Michael, In Reef Fishes vol 1, tells of a frogfish that ate a small shark; half of its body was sticking out of the frogfishes mouth. While I don't know of an angler successfully eating a snowflake eel, I have seen two instances where the angler tried. In one case, both fishes died. In the other both survived.

IMO, frogfishes are best kept to a species-only tank.
