sohal tang a must

I love mine and it was $129 at the lfs. He's a mean bastard though. He and the PBT chase each other. The large yellows and purple, and naso don't back down.

He's also not afraid of my hand and I'm kinda skeerd when he does his tazmanian devil swirls when I'm removing the seaweed clip!

Get a small on and make it your last fish. It eats everything; literature I saw said it need spirulina which it gets from flake and ON frozen spirulina formula for me.

and OMG on that price??? $400?????? LMBO!! Are they kiddin? I paid 120.00 for mine and he was the size of a chicken nugget when I got him....couldnt have been any older than 4 or 5 months

Man, what people wouldnt do for a dollar.....Im so glad I dont have the almighty dollar ruling my life.......its one thing to make a profit, but geeeez

Did this $400 fish expel gold chunks when nature called or what?

LMBO!

thats the thing we end up paying alotta $$ over here
mind you he wasnt a juvie id say roughly 4 to 5 in in size

i notice the rc logo not long ago .

judging from every1s response u guys seem to have in fairly larger sized tank
so im obviously gona wait till the next project kicks in and design the tank around this fish

As Nexdog said u can see Sohals who're getting along with other fish without any problem.

One of the LFS I know had a Sohal in one of their coral holding system, the only "problem" was that it was growing very fast comparing any other Acanthurus sp. in that system, it didnt show any agression.

On the other hand I know of a 5" Sohal in a 300 gallon system that was getting along with all the fish in the system, but killing almost any new fish to the point the owner offered him for free to anybody who can catch him without taking out all the LR and corals.

My old roommate years ago had a 300 with a beautiful Sohal, when I was moving out and breaking down my 155 he begged me for my purple tang. Since I was going to a smaller system for a while I decided to give him the purple.

We dropped the purple in the tank and they chased each other a little but it didn't seem too bad and figured it would pass. We decided to go pick up some dinner and grab a beer, within the hour we were gone things obviously got heated between the two and when we walked in and looked at the tank there was an 8" Sohal 95% dead on the sand and the 4" purple dive bombing it and slashing away. The purple didn't have a scratch on it... Needless to say I felt pretty bad.

Everyone I know that's had a Sohal had to make it their last fish, anything introduced after it would be attacked the second it hit the water. That is except for my old purple tang who I named "little evil" Now my old roommate still has that purple tang and hasn't been able to add a fish to the tank since because of how ****ed off that purple tang is.

Go figure...

Its like that with my Powder blue tang. My sohal is fine doesnt bother anyone but will stand his ground if picked on, thats for sure. The powder blue tanh I have is another story, he will try to kill any large fish put into the tank. I had some aptaisia and bought a copperband butterfly, he beat it to near death in 5 minutes before I pulled him out and put him in my 120 gallon sump (where he now resides by himself feasting on pods all day). Each fish is a little different and you just don't know what will happen. I had a coral beauty that used to pick on my female GSM clown all day long till I got rid of it.

My sohal Tang is named Butthead. He definitely has an attitude. He only is aggressive around feeding time. Then he chases my purple tang. I haven't tried to add anymore fish since i got him. This is a spectacular fish with a quirky personality. He has no fear of me at all. great grazer, i have him with the following fish with no problems. purple tang, scribbled rabbitfish, green Chromis, ,Barrtlets Anthias, Manderin, six line Wrasse, Cardinals, cleaner Wrasse, The other fish give him a wide berth when he swims by. Take care, Mike

i had a clown tang in a 150 for 3 years last fish i addded... upgraded to a 300DD and he went on a killing spree. all the same fish just a new home. clown tang would be just as aggressive if not more

Very interesting thread. Its refreshing to have people posting with success in keeping this fish.

Richie

Sohal tangs are doable, you just need to have the willingness to take their needs into mind when designing both your tank (8' tank is great, 10' even better) and your livestock. Even then, people can get ones that simply turn into killing machines. They are stunning fish though.
