Sohal Tang vs. Passer Angel

I don't really want to argue anymore with people that think they know more about the tank I have been watching every day for 3 years now.....I will update this thread in a week.

For the record: I admire your dedication & tenacity with this situation. This is a minor event compared to some of the incredibly stupid things some hobbiests do. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't. I just don't put fish in the same category as people (or even dogs). I haven't seen any dead, or even maimed, fish in your tank. If, and when, that happens (not once, but repeatedly); criticism may be warranted, but not now. This will offend a lot of folks; but if the Sohal kills one fish and then only minor skirmishes occur (IMO & IME, entirely possible)----so what.

No one's claiming to know more about your tank than you do. It's about experience with this particular species in tanks of this size (and much larger). I'll be more interested in an update in a year.

And I'm guessing most of the bandwagoners have little or no experience with aggressive fish other than what they read from other people that don't have experience with aggressive fish....I respect your thoughts Wolverine as I know you have kept many Triggers and Acan. Tangs.

Hopefully in a year or so, ALL of these fish will be in their new 10x4x2.5 home in our new house, until then, I think my tank which has lost 1 fish in the last 33 months will do quite nicely.

And to Mr. Tusk (whom has been keeping SW fish longer than most of us have been alive) and Coralfish, thanks for the support...I think one of the annoying things on the boards is all the people that make definitive statements on everything.....If there is one thing I know, there is not much definitive about this hobby.

I don't know what to think of someone who posts a video of their gorgeous passer angel being bullied by their sohal tang and gets upset when people call it out. If you want people to pat you on the back and congratulate you just read youtube comments. If you want to show it to reefers with years and years of experience who know better than you be prepared to take some criticism. You have a nice aquarium and there is no question about that. The problem is you are completely oblivious to a problem that was easily anticipated and has an incredibly obvious solution. It's posts like this when I can't help but think that maybe people like snorkel bob are right in that for all our knowledge we've acumulated over the past 3 decades the vast majority of hobbyists have not shown themselves to be worthy of the fish they keep.

Ah at last, now we have the definitive answer from the expert with the 20 gallon nano.....My goodness, my Lime Green Wrasse chased my Harlequin Tusk tonight during feeding, time to get rid of him too.:fun2:

Wolverine, please delete this thread, I can't take anymore experts like James from the Nano Section.

Call me out for having a 20 eh? Well sir the size of ones tank is not a measure of knowledge or skill by any means. All of my experiences in this hobby are not tied up in the tank I currently have. This happens to be a practical tank for me at this stage of my life. I have planned all of my purchases for my reef and anticipated the needs for all of my inhabitants. And guess what? If things don't get along or an inhabitant doesn't look like it will work out I will move it. But you are ignoring the whole point. Your sohal tang is bullying your passer angel and you are not even willing to think that this may be a problem.

My Passer doesn't have mark on him, I have absolutely no fear that he is in danger at this time. This is posturing and it will IMO end in a few days.

I know I'm in the minority, and I'm not coming down on people whom buy fish "temporarily" like you. I just grow attached to my fish and plan to keep them for life, not get rid of them because they act like they are supposed to.

It won't end in few days. That's what I thought. And it got worse. The Sohal ripped my fish apart. And not only spoken literally. IMHO keeping a Sohal in a tank is impossible. Last year I have seen grown up ones when diving. And that's when I realized there is NO tank big enough for one to keep it happy. So even if you THINK you're doing him good by telling everyone you plan on keeping every fish for life.. well then you should get fish that are suitable to be KEPT for that long. A Sohal is a wrong choice in this case. And trying to be good to the tang means you are cruel to all the other fish in your tank. That's not what I would call "growing attached to a fish". You are trying to talk yourself happy. Wake up. You think getting rid of the tang is cruel but other fish being bullied is not??

The Sohal won't calm down. I only started believing when he slashed one of my multicolors apart and even gave me a nice cut. And yes, I would do it again. No matter how nice a fish might look. If one becomes a trouble maker, he has to go.
