Solana tank owner thread.

For now, I have the following top to bottom. A filter pad on top of the first black divider -> Cheato -> A Purigen and ChemiClean sandwich loosely zip tied to the bottom divider to keep it all from floating up.

Ah cool. Thanks for the description. That will definitely help when i set up my fuge in my 2nd chamber.

I officially joined the club this afternoon but it didn't come easy!

Last week I ordered the tank from fish.com for a great deal...sort of an impulse buy after being away from the hobby for two years. Then I spent the last five days reading post after post about broken tanks. Sure enough when the ups guy delivered it today I opened it up to see glass everywhere.

I immediately called my LFS and asked if they had any in stock (should have done that to begin with). They had the low iron version for only $20 more than I payed for the regular one! I then called fish.com and told them to send UPS tomorrow to pick up the tank and refund my money...they didn't hesitate at all. She sounded used to that and they were very easy to deal with. I can't believe how poorly they are packaged and I bet only 2 out of 10 make it intact...weird way to do business.

So, be on the lookout for pics and all that from me in the future!

Grizzy - Congrats! They are great tanks but with poor shipping as you discovered. LFS is definitely the best way to go.

Deff have to buy local. IDK if id trust a fragile tank to be shipped. I picked up my solana new for $175 for tank only and just built my own stand and threw a retro 250 on it a voila solana for under $400!

Figured i would show my tank, i dont think i ever joined the thread officially. so heres mine!

So an update on my fuge light search. Was trying to find something similar to MVIk's LED fuge light.

Think I found something that might work.
Nanocustoms 2.1 LED Fuge Light

Looks like they could be mounted on the back of the tank on the outside. No added heat and hopefully will grow some nice chaeto.

I'll probably try it after Christmas when I have some extra cash lying around.

Just wanted to share and get some others opinions on it.

Has anyone replaced the stock return pump

Good question. Wondering the same thing.
I know some replaced it with a MJ900 for slower flow for the skimmer but I dont know if any used a 1200.

Interested in the answer too. Thanks.

I'd love to replace mine with a slower pump like the 900, but if I recall the parts listed by the person who did seemed rather complex. Hopefully others will chime in.

Also, anyone find a good method to silence the overflow? I have not found a good something to put in the overflow that does not clog quickly and does not soften up too much. I'd like something that lasts a week at least before I need to clean it. Anything I have tired either clogs in a day or two or gets to soft and ends up falling into the overflow.

I would have to say
ATI Blue +
25/75
Pure Actinic (giesmenn)
ATI Blue +

or

Blue +
Aquablue Special
Fiji Purple
Blue +

that's just me...f.

thx man... this is not for my system is for a friend of mine, and we are ordering everything from marinedepot and they don't have any ATI bulbs.. i like both of the combo you gave us, but i think he wants to buy all the giesmenn bulbs can you give us a combo with those bulbs? thank you again.

Thx. Are you securing them to the top in any way or do they stay in place on their own?

No, they stay in place. They might sink just a little, but not enough to cause an issue... Not near as much as the one that came stock.

From stock set up:
1 x Insert Elbow Fitting 1/2 insert x 1/2 insert
1/2 inch Clear Flexible Vinyl Tubing (6 inches)

New parts:
1 x Plastic Hose Clamp 3/4 inch
1 x Watts Quick Connect 1/2 Inch O.D. Tube X 3/8 Inch Male Pipe Adaptor (PL-3035)
1 x Maxi Jet 900

Connect the Quick connect to the vinyl tube and secure with the hose clamp. Then attach the quick connect to the MJ900. Plug in.

Hey no problem.
I'm not sure about going all geismenn as the
combo I gave you offers the best par for each bulb
(you will get growth and color)

I would suggest asking on the T-5 Q & A huge thread here on RC
they might have the answer there... :)

Thanks for the info.
I think i'll swap out the stock pump with the MJet 1200
I'll write a lil review on it.
