Solana tank owner thread.

Does anyone have a set of the top glass brackets (4) that they are not using and would like to sell to me? I bought a used Solana tank and it did not come with the brackets for the top glass piece. The previous owner said he misplaced them because he did not use the top glass. I have emailed Current a couple of times asking if I could purchase them and have not received any response back from them.

Thanks

Need some help getting the water level down in the main tank for when my mp10 arrives!

I dialed down the stock return as much I could to try and get water in the back chamber vs being out front.. helped a little but not enough.

What does everybody do to get their level right, im at about .5-3/4 inch from the top edge of the glass.... i saw that mp10 video with the crazy waves on the top and worried about splash over.

Do not run in wave modes. Most use Reefcrest or lagoon. Waves are for larger tanks. The water level in the Solana is generally around 1 inch and is mostly dictated by the overflow holes. Not very easy to adjust much without a mod to them.

Justin,

Do you have any pictures of how your euroreef fits in the back? I want to get one so bad but after talking to the guys there they said it will stick out which won't work with my custom lid and lights.

Also, do you have any pictures of the skimmate it produces?

Thanks,
Chris

Oh sorry missed this.

Here you go. The skimmate pic was only after a week but you can see how good it was already :) That was only 26 hours of skimmate in a lightly stocked tank.

Just picked up a used Solana tonight, so add me to the club!

Picking up a Tunze skimmer and a Vortech MP40, but still undecided on the lighting. Also contemplating go bare bottom but still undecided...

The guy I got it from did a few nice mods too

He made this slick top

And moved the return outlet up on the back wall

If your running a skimmer in the back of the solana or any all in one for that matter, you don't really want a flow rate of close to 700gph. I switched from the stock pump to a mj900 which is less flow and have seen huge improvements with my euroreef skimmer. Same with running gfo passively in the back, probably don't want so much flow through it.

Skimmers are much more effective when they can keep up with the flow rate through the chamber they are in. I personally would stick to below 300gph for a solana. You shouldn't be trying to get as much flow as possible from the return.

Perhaps your right, maybe my skimmer would work better with less flow. However im running the stock skimmer and it seems to do what i need from it without issues. Maybe ill experiment in the future with this and see if i can actually see better results with a smaller pump.

It doesnt make sense to me though, as my water level is always about 1/2" from the top. Why cut the top, if anything wouldnt cutting the bottom be the most usefull?

Solana Pendant and Lunar lights?

Solana Pendant and Lunar lights?

thinking of buying a Solana with the pendant disco ball, are there any way to add lunar lights to that setup? With no hood and a tiny pendant, i think the answer is no, but wanted to check.

Thanks,
James

Yeah I wasn't really paying attention. Your right, it would only make sense to make the teeth bigger by cutting DOWN. That would allow for more flow. I have no idea what the point of cutting up was for.

I also don't see the point of moving the return line, so maybe the original owner just liked to mod stuff :)
